Rice prices in the Mekong Delta region on March 28th saw slight fluctuations. Fresh paddy tended to increase in price, while rice and by-products generally remained stable compared to the previous day.
In localities like An Giang, fragrant rice transactions are fairly stable, with prices slightly increasing, while the consumption of common white rice is slower. In Lap Vo (Dong Thap) and the Sa Dec market area, the supply is not abundant, but rice prices remain stable. In An Cu (Cai Be, Tien Giang ), the supply is sporadic, high-quality rice varieties are offered at stable prices, and warehouses are still actively purchasing fragrant rice.
In other provinces in the region, the prices of raw and finished rice have not changed significantly. Raw OM 380 rice is trading at 7,500 – 7,600 VND/kg, IR 504 rice at 7,700 – 7,800 VND/kg. OM 5451 rice is priced from 8,600 – 8,750 VND/kg and OM 18 from 9,300 – 9,500 VND/kg. Finished IR 504 rice remains at 7,600 – 7,800 VND/kg.
At local markets, rice prices remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Nang Nhen rice was still the most expensive at 28,000 VND/kg. Fragrant rice, regular rice, and premium varieties such as Jasmine, Huong Lai, and Japanese rice were stable at around 15,000 to 22,000 VND/kg. However, the price of rice bran tended to decrease slightly by 1,000 VND/kg, currently ranging from 8,000 to 9,000 VND/kg.
The glutinous rice market maintains stable prices. IR 4625 glutinous rice fluctuates between 7,900 and 8,000 VND/kg, while 3-month dry glutinous rice remains at a high level of 9,600-9,700 VND/kg. Fresh IR 4625 glutinous rice is currently being purchased at around 7,600-7,700 VND/kg.
By-products are currently priced between 5,500 and 7,300 VND/kg. Fragrant rice husks are purchased at 7,100-7,300 VND/kg, while 3-4 grade husks are priced at 6,800-6,900 VND/kg. Rice husks are currently priced between 800-900 VND/kg, while dry rice bran remains stable at around 5,500-5,650 VND/kg.
In the fresh rice market, trading today was relatively stable. In Bac Lieu, many traders inquired about buying fragrant rice, and farmers' asking prices increased slightly. In An Giang, some areas recorded a decrease in rice supply and slow trading, but prices remained stable. In Kien Giang , Japonica rice prices increased slightly, with fairly good demand. Dong Thap recorded steady trading, and fragrant rice prices remained stable.
According to the latest update from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, the price of Dai Thom 8 rice has increased by 200 VND/kg, currently reaching 6,600 – 6,700 VND/kg. OM 18 rice has also seen a slight increase to a similar level. Other varieties such as Nang Hoa 9, OM 5451, and IR 50404 continue to trade at 5,600 – 6,500 VND/kg, with no significant changes compared to yesterday.
In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices continue to be competitive with major exporting countries. 5% broken rice is currently offered at $400/ton, close to Thailand's $401/ton and $4/ton higher than similar rice from India. Meanwhile, Pakistani rice remains the cheapest, at only $391/ton.
Faced with the constantly fluctuating rice market, the Vietnamese government has instructed relevant ministries and agencies to intervene to regulate supply and demand and ensure sustainable export activities. Businesses are also being supported in accessing capital to purchase and temporarily store rice for export, contributing to maintaining stable domestic rice prices.
Internationally, Thailand continues to be the largest supplier of rice to the US, with exports increasing compared to last year. India also recently concluded a bumper crop, achieving a record production of over 278 million tons of paddy rice in the 2024-2025 season. As a result, the country lifted its ban on broken rice exports on March 7th and is ready to export approximately 2 million tons to markets, mainly Africa and China.
However, even if India returns to the market, the impact on global rice prices is not expected to be significant due to the relatively abundant global supply.
