On September 5th, Labor Hero Ho Quang Cua - the "father" of ST25 rice - stated that farmers in the Mekong Delta are currently entering the summer-autumn rice harvest season. Compared to the same period last year, the price of rice in this summer-autumn crop has increased significantly, helping farmers increase their income considerably, so they are very happy.

Among them, ST25 rice has seen the most dramatic price increase. "Never before has the price of ST25 rice been this high this season. Currently, farmers are selling it for 11,000 VND/kg, an increase of over 3,000 VND/kg compared to the same period last year. Although the price of ST25 rice has increased significantly, my company is still keeping rice prices low to retain customers," Mr. Cua informed.

Mr. Huynh Van Giai (Long Duc commune, Long Phu district, Soc Trang province) said he had just harvested 1 hectare of ST25 rice. This year, thanks to the application of new farming techniques, Mr. Giai was able to significantly reduce his costs.

"The ST25 rice yield was quite high, over 7 tons/ha. The company bought it directly from the field at nearly 11,000 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, I still made a profit of over 50 million VND. This is the highest profit I've ever made," Mr. Giai said.

According to Mr. Ho Quang Cua, the reason for the sky-high price of ST25 rice in recent days, besides the demand from customers who are accustomed to eating this fragrant rice variety, is that people and businesses are collecting it to use as seed rice for the upcoming winter-spring crop, selling it at around 24,000 VND/kg.

"This practice is unacceptable and affects the quality and reputation of Vietnamese rice. We hope that local authorities and relevant agencies will investigate and strictly handle the situation of counterfeiting ST25 rice varieties," Mr. Cua said.
