Recently, due to successive natural disasters, approximately 635,000 hectares of rice, vegetables, and other crops have been damaged. Severe flooding has caused difficulties in the supply of agricultural products, and the price of green vegetables has sometimes increased two to three times. To help stabilize the agricultural market, many localities have selected suitable vegetable varieties and promptly restored production.

Mrs. Hanh's 20 acres of vegetables were completely destroyed due to being submerged in water for many days. Immediately after the water receded, her family urgently prepared the land and sowed seeds of short-term vegetables such as mustard greens and radishes. Harvesting is now beginning.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh from Tien Phong Hamlet, Me Linh Commune, Hanoi City, said: "We are currently harvesting 3 tons of short-term vegetables from 3 sao (approximately 3,000 square meters). We will harvest root vegetables next week to supply the market. The supply is now sufficient to serve the people. We sow seeds as soon as we harvest. We continue planting short-term vegetables where we grow them, and we plant root vegetables where we grow root vegetables."

The 200 hectares of vegetable crops belonging to the Dong Cao General Service Cooperative were severely affected and damaged after several days of heavy rain and flooding. To date, 80% of the area has been restored. Simultaneously planting and purchasing, Mr. Tham's facility, a member of the Dong Cao General Service Cooperative, is currently working urgently to process the produce in order to fulfill orders.

Mr. Dam Van Tham from Dong Cao village, Me Linh commune, Hanoi shared: "At the beginning of the season, I buy about 3-4 tons per day, mainly for export to the North. I expect that in about half a month, the average daily volume will be around 10 tons, enough to supply the Central market."

Mr. Dam Van Dua, Director of Dong Cao General Service Cooperative in Me Linh commune, Hanoi, stated: "Currently, we supply approximately 50-60 tons of vegetables and fruits to neighboring provinces and Hanoi daily. After harvesting, we are instructing farmers to plant short-term vegetable crops to meet the larger market demand."

Focusing on short-term, early-harvesting vegetable varieties has helped the supply of green vegetables recover quickly. However, in addition to short-term response measures, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment aims to stabilize the area of over 400,000 hectares of winter crops in the northern provinces, with a production of approximately 5 million tons, to meet the demand for agricultural products from now until the end of the year.
