"Dong Hung's time has come," one audience member commented after hearing the singer's cover of "The Road Ahead" at the National Concert.
Previously, Dong Hung caused a sensation online after his duet performance of "Continuing the Story of Peace" with Vo Ha Tram at the Grand Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). Since that milestone, Dong Hung has been featured on various large and small political and artistic stages, as well as national-level concerts.
The singer, born in 1993, has become a "cover machine," successfully performing a series of songs that are decades old, rearranged with a modern musical style that easily appeals to audiences, especially young people. Most recently, Dong Hung and Duong Hoang Yen's performance of "Unstoppable" topped the list of trending keywords on TikTok.
Dong Hung's arduous path
Dong Hung made his debut at the "Youth" concert – a special event celebrating the founding anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, organized by Tien Phong Newspaper – as one of the most sought-after male singers currently. After a year of explosive success across all fronts, the singer born in 1993 has contributed to bringing revolutionary and patriotic songs closer to young audiences.
Audiences who are primarily familiar with the Vietnamese music market, the Vpop scene featuring genres like ballad, rap/hip-hop, and R&B, can now appreciate Dong Hung's unique musical style. The balance between academic, highly professional elements and widespread popularity is something not every singer can achieve like Dong Hung.

Twelve years ago, Dong Hung was a standout contestant in Vietnam Idol 2014, competing alongside Nhat Thuy (winner), Minh Thuy (runner-up), Yen Le, Phuong Linh, and others. The male singer was praised by the judges for his bright appearance, polished performance style, and top-tier vocal foundation among the contestants that year.
Ultimately, Dong Hung finished in the top 3, much to everyone's regret. The male singer lost out due to voting issues and other problems unrelated to his professional skills. Later, the story of Dong Hung juggling the competition with the burdens of life was revealed. Audiences felt sorry for Dong Hung because if he had fully dedicated himself to Vietnam Idol 2014, his position could have been higher, and he would have had a much more explosive career start.
The Thanh Xuan Concert, organized by Tien Phong Newspaper, will be held on June 27th at the My Dinh F1 Racetrack ( Hanoi ).
Vietnam Idol was once a breeding ground for outstanding talents in Vpop. Dong Hung moved south with the ambition of becoming an "idol," but the male singer returned to the North, choosing a different path from most of his colleagues in the game show. From there, Dong Hung stepped back, accepting a slower pace to build his career in traditional music genres and professional stages.
The burdens of life continued to weigh on Dong Hung in the years that followed. It wasn't until Dong Hung released his debut album in 2023, and then gradually shone in political and artistic programs, reaching the pinnacle with his performance of "Continuing the Story of Peace" and subsequent stage performances, that his efforts spanned a decade.
Rapid career advancement
When his live performance of "Continuing the Story of Peace" went viral , Dong Hung took a step forward to become a leading professional vocalist, dominating the trending charts of Vietnamese music. In just one year, the male singer made a strong breakthrough, dominating every platform. For a singer in the academic, professional segment, appearing in trending TikTok content is no easy feat. But Dong Hung achieved it, proving that his time has truly come.
Dong Hung has won over a discerning audience who value vocal quality, polished style, and clean, meaningful renditions of songs. His remarkable progress stems from expanding his audience to include younger listeners who follow trends on YouTube and especially TikTok.

In recent years, the musical tastes of young audiences have also changed: the demands for vocal quality, live performance ability, and stage presence from singers have increased. Especially in the last few months, after the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports issued a document banning lip-syncing on stage, audiences have begun to focus their attention on singers with real talent and strong live performances.
Much of Dong Hung's recent "viral" success stems from his excellent live performances. This is further enhanced by his versatile vocals, with a solid foundation in Pop Rock, allowing him to handle many genres. His cover of " Duong Len Phia Truoc" (The Road Ahead ) helped the song regain popularity. He also revamped classic songs like " Ho Keo Phao " (Pulling the Cannon) and " Len Dang" (Onward), receiving much praise from the audience.
Most recently, Dong Hung and Duong Hoang Yen created a cover of "Unstoppable" that took social media by storm – a hit song from Sia's TikTok that many Vietnamese singers have failed at covering. But Dong Hung has shown his talent as a "cover machine." He is gradually becoming a name that guarantees the success of large-scale outdoor music programs.
Dong Hung's appearance is a highlight, promising to be a surprise at the Youth Concert. The male singer is a prime example of a young artist who has proven his vocal talent, established a standard style, and worked diligently in the arts without any controversies.
The Youth Concert is staged in a storytelling format using music and modern performance art. Each chapter of the program is a slice of Vietnamese youth, taking the audience on a 'time train' from the vibrant and heroic memories of previous generations to the energetic and modern spirit of today's youth.
Dong Hung's powerful and inspiring voice will shine at the special event celebrating the founding anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union, organized by Tien Phong Newspaper .
The "Youth" concert, organized by Tien Phong Newspaper, took place on June 27th at the F1 racetrack (My Dinh, Hanoi). The concert featured 12 artists including Hoa Minzy, Quang Hung MasterD, Muoi, Buitruonglinh, Double2T, Vo Ha Tram, Dong Hung, CONGB, Ha Myo, Tran Ngoc Anh, and Hoaprox.
