Professor Cao Huy Thuan passed away

Professor Cao Huy Thuan - author of many books such as "Seeing Buddha", "Sunshine and Flowers", "When Leaning on the Pillow, When Bowing the Head" - died at the age of 87, in Paris, France.

Mr. Cao Huy Hoa, younger brother of Professor Cao Huy Thuan, announced that he passed away at 5:00 a.m. on July 8 ( Hanoi time). Venerable Thich Hai An - President of the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Hue - said that he will wait for information from his family and then organize a memorial service for the professor. He used to lecture on a number of topics at the academy.

The Venerable commented that Professor Cao Huy Thuan is an enthusiastic Buddhist for his homeland, people and religion, as shown through his books. Through his lectures, he always wishes to impart his knowledge to all monks and nuns at the academy.

His literature blends philosophy of life and philosophy of Buddhism. The issues he addresses are close, simple, and practical in life. For example, in Spider's Thread , he talks about an important moral principle - do not lie. According to him, besides family, what can education at school do more practically to teach each child, each citizen to be honest is also to know how to "be human".

In the ramblings When leaning on the pillow and bowing his head , he conveys his perspective on people and life with a gentle and tolerant lifestyle. Professor Cao Huy Thuan once said in the newspaper Enlightenment : "My books are often written for young people to read, the morality in them is for young people."

Poet Nguyen Duy once commented: "Reading him, I truly admire a profound scholar who knows how to seek the source of knowledge. I admire even more a subtle author who knows how to hide behind the writing, spreading wisdom and connecting conscience with emotions, with all the energy of the soul and literary ability possible."

The professor was born into a family with a tradition of studiousness in Hue , graduated from Saigon Law University (1955-1960), and taught at Hue University (1962-1964). As a patriotic intellectual, he published newspapers. Lap Truong , participated in the struggle during the 1963 Buddhist suppression event in Hue. He was a Buddhist at Tu Dam Pagoda.

In 1964, he studied in France, defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Paris (1969), and then became Director of the Center for European Community Studies at the University of Picardie. He is a professor of political science at the University of Picardie, France.

Professor Cao Huy Thuan is the author of many research works in French. To Vietnamese readers, he is loved through books full of philosophy of life such as God, Nature, Man, I and We, Religion and modern society, Sunshine and Flowers, The World Around Us, Seeing Buddha, White Lotus Diary, Spider's Thread.
