Professor Cao Huy Thuan has passed away.

Professor Cao Huy Thuần, author of numerous books such as "Seeing the Buddha," "Sunshine and Flowers," and "When Leaning on a Pillow, When Bowing Your Head," passed away at the age of 87 in Paris, France.

Mr. Cao Huy Hoa, younger brother of Professor Cao Huy Thuan, announced that his father passed away at 5:00 AM on July 8th ( Hanoi time). Venerable Thich Hai An, Rector of the Vietnam Buddhist Academy in Hue, said that he is awaiting information from the family before organizing a memorial service for the professor. Professor Cao Huy Thuan had previously lectured on several topics at the academy.

The Venerable Monk remarked that Professor Cao Huy Thuần was a devout Buddhist who was passionate about his homeland, his people, and the Dharma, as evidenced by his books. Through his lectures, he always wished to impart his knowledge to all the monastic students at the academy.

His writing blends philosophical insights into human life and Buddhist philosophy. The issues he addresses are relatable, simple, and practical in everyday life. For example, in "The spider's web ," he said, referring to an important moral principle – not lying. According to him, besides family, what more practical things can schools do to teach each child, each citizen, that honesty is also a way of "being a good person"?

In the collection of essays When leaning on his knees and bowing his head , he conveyed his perspective on people and life with a gentle and tolerant demeanor. Professor Cao Huy Thuần once said in a newspaper article. Enlightenment : "My books are usually written for young people to read; the morals in them are meant for young people."

Poet Nguyen Duy once remarked: "Reading his work, I sincerely admire a profound scholar who knows how to seek the very source of knowledge. I am even more impressed by a subtle author who knows how to discreetly conceal himself behind the pages, disseminating wisdom and connecting conscience through emotion, with all the energy of his soul and literary ability he possesses."

The professor was born into a traditional, scholarly family in Hue , graduated from Saigon Law University (1955-1960), and taught at Hue University (1962-1964). As a patriotic intellectual, he published a newspaper. Lập Trường participated in the struggle during the 1963 Buddhist suppression in Hue. He was formerly a Buddhist at Từ Đàm Pagoda.

In 1964, he studied in France, defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Paris (1969), and subsequently became Director of the Center for European Community Studies at the University of Picardie. He is a professor of political science at the University of Picardie, France.

Professor Cao Huy Thuần is the author of numerous research works in French. He is beloved by Vietnamese readers for his books imbued with philosophical insights into human life, such as... God, Nature, Man, I and We, Religion and modern society, Sunshine and Flowers, The World Around Us, Seeing Buddha, White Lotus Diary, Spider's Thread.
