TTH.VN - On the morning of June 26th, the Department of Tourism, in coordination with Vietnam National Halal Company Limited, organized a conference titled "Introducing Halal Standards - Services Friendly to Muslims" to provide businesses in the province with an overview of Islamic tourism; Halal food; services friendly to Muslims; the requirements of Halal standards; and Halal certification programs.
According to the head of the Department of Tourism, the global Muslim tourism market is vast and has developed strongly over the past years. After the COVID-19 pandemic, Thua Thien Hue and other central provinces of Vietnam have strongly connected with Southeast Asian countries and the Middle East, including countries with high Muslim populations such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and India. The number of Muslims worldwide is 1.8 billion, and in the ASEAN region alone it is 255 million.
However, local tourism authorities still lack understanding and information about this market, and there has been insufficient investment in specialized tourism services in localities to meet the demands of this new, potentially lucrative market. This requires focused preparation of infrastructure and facilities for promotion.
To effectively attract this potential international tourist market, several issues need to be addressed by local authorities and those working in the service and hospitality industries. These include a thorough understanding of the culture, behavior, and specific needs of Muslim tourists, such as their preference for Halal food, the availability of facilities that cater to their needs like prayer rooms, and the high demand for travel among Muslim tourists after Ramadan, the most important holy month of Islam (usually in April-May).
