TTH.VN - On the morning of June 26, the Department of Tourism coordinated with Vietnam National Halal Company Limited to organize a conference "Introducing Halal standards - Muslim-friendly services" to create conditions for businesses in the province to learn about an overview of Islamic tourism; Halal food; Muslim-friendly services; Halal standards requirements and Halal certification programs.
According to the leader of the Department of Tourism, the world Muslim tourism market is very large and has developed strongly over the past years. Thua Thien Hue and the central provinces of Vietnam after the COVID-19 pandemic have strongly connected with Southeast Asian countries and the Middle East, including countries with high Muslim populations such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, India, etc. The number of Muslims in the world is 1.8 billion people and in the ASEAN region alone is 255 million people.
However, local tourism has not yet understood and grasped much information about this market and has not yet invested widely in specific tourism services in localities to meet one of the new, potential markets that needs to focus on preparing infrastructure facilities for promotion.
To effectively attract this potential international tourist market, many issues need to be raised for the authorities and those working in the service and hotel industry in those localities, such as understanding the culture, behavior and special needs of Muslim tourists, such as Muslim tourists only consuming Halal food, service facilities meeting needs such as having prayer rooms, or the need for Muslim tourists to travel is very high after Ramadan, the most important month of Islam (usually in April - May).
