Lampard couldn't hold back his emotions.

Frank Lampard experienced one of the most memorable nights of his coaching career as he led Coventry City to promotion to the Premier League after a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on the morning of April 18th. This result was enough for Coventry to officially return to England's top flight after a 25-year absence.

The moment the final whistle blew, Lampard couldn't hold back his emotions. The former Chelsea midfielder choked up during the post-match interview, admitting that the pressure of the promotion race had caused him a lot of anxiety throughout the 90 minutes.

"That's what football is all about. Coming here and getting a point at this stage of the season isn't easy. The pressure, the tension, the anxiety, and everything," Lampard shared emotionally.

The winning goal came in the final minute when Bobby Thomas rose high to head home the equalizer, igniting the Coventry fans in the stands. Lampard called it "an unbelievable moment."

The English manager expressed his gratitude to the fans and the city of Coventry. He said the feeling was even more special because the team achieved their goal three rounds before the end of the season, given that they are not a club with the same financial advantages as their competitors.

Lampard also acknowledged the foundation laid by his predecessor, Mark Robins. Coventry suffered a painful defeat to Luton Town in the 2023 play-off final and were again eliminated by Sunderland in the play-off semi-final last season. After numerous missed opportunities, they finally made it through the doors of the Premier League.

Despite having achieved their biggest goal, Coventry are not ready to stop there. The team is still aiming for the Championship title with three rounds remaining.

Lampard jokingly said his players deserved a beer to celebrate, but also reminded the team to stay focused in order to conclude the season in the best possible way.

Manchester United only have themselves to blame. They had a chance to pull ahead in the 32nd round of the Premier League as their rivals for a Champions League spot kept stumbling. However, the 90 minutes at Old Trafford on the morning of April 14th unfolded in an undesirable way.
