According to him, throughout their writing career, journalists must always self-study, self-train and improve their expertise, professionalism and work ethics.

1. The late journalist Huu Tho was a veteran journalist, an excellent writer of the Vietnamese revolutionary press. To him, Uncle Ho was the “Greatest Teacher of the Vietnamese revolutionary press”. With all respect, right at the beginning of the book titled “Bright Eyes, Pure Heart, Sharp Pen”, journalist Huu Tho admonished himself in his journalism career according to Ho Chi Minh’s ideology.

Therefore, in his extremely vibrant and rich journalistic life, journalist Huu Tho has kept in mind Uncle Ho's teaching to journalists: "Your pens are also sharp weapons in the cause of supporting righteousness and eliminating evil."

Uncle Ho's profound teachings are the guiding principles for Vietnamese revolutionary journalists. For that reason, for journalist Huu Tho, his reflection on the mission of "supporting the righteous and eliminating evil" is a very glorious task. To undertake such a heavy task, one must train one's professional qualities and especially one must have pure ethics to overcome temptations and threats, to be steadfast in one's writing, and not betray the trust of the majority of readers.

Thus, to carry out the noble mission of “supporting the righteous and eliminating evil” of revolutionary journalism, it is necessary to have people with pure morality. A writer with pure morality is able to overcome trivial temptations. Because overcoming temptation is an affirmation of self-respect, self-esteem, being a person with personality, dignity, morality, demonstrating a steadfast character in thought, perception and action.

A writer with pure ethics will also overcome all threats and intimidation. “A righteous tree is not afraid of death”, not only journalism but also all professions in society, when we do not do anything against our conscience and always work for the common good, then we will have no fear in our hearts, always be pure, selfless and carry out our work thoroughly.

The mettle of journalists is forged from a foundation of pure morality. Only then can they use their weapon, the pen, to “support the righteous and eliminate evil”. Carrying out this noble, glorious and not without hardship task, journalist Huu Tho said: “Today, in my understanding, it means enthusiastically supporting the renovation process, people with upright hearts, wholeheartedly serving the people, and criticizing what is morally dishonest, entangled in bureaucracy, corruption, and waste”.

The contemplation and teachings of journalist Huu Tho are still relevant to journalists today.

2. When mentioning specific issues about ethics and conscience of Vietnamese journalists, journalist Huu Tho had a famous saying: "To do this job, you must have bright eyes, a pure heart, and a sharp pen to succeed." And with all the humility from the bottom of his heart, he only considered this as: "I would like to share a few words of confidence with those who are new to the profession so that we can think together and "keep the family's ethics."

To “keep the family’s moral code”, according to journalist Huu Tho, journalists need to practice ethics and conscience, including the following mottos: “Respect the truth. Be impartial. Be reasonable and emotional. Be constructive, promote strengths, overcome weaknesses, correct and move forward. Do not reveal secrets of the Party and State”.

Broadly speaking, ethics and conscience are the overall cultural “picture” of a journalist. For that reason, journalists need to have courage, ethics, and conscience, and at the same time pay great attention to behavioral culture: “Modesty, self-respect, sincerity, and dedication to work are the most correct attitudes of a cultured journalist... Being subservient and flattering is not a cultured journalist. Taking advantage of begging during communication is an uncultured person and is looked down upon. Being arrogant, stubborn, showing off superiority, and looking down on the person you are talking to is not a cultured journalist.”

The ethics and conscience of a journalist are also to constantly preserve and cultivate a lasting love for the profession and the pen. We understand that no good article is born from leisure and warmth, no famous journalist does not shed sweat, tears, and sometimes even blood. Above all, the best quality of a journalist when holding a pen in hand is: "When writing praise or criticism of someone, we should also do a permutation, put ourselves in that person's position, the pen will be more profound. When praising, be sincere... When criticizing someone, do not bury or insult... The heart, sincerity, and honesty help journalists orient their pen. In the business, never sell words! When writing about evil, our hearts must be full of goodness, literature and words must live with love to last!"

The lines and emotional stories about the profession written by journalist Huu Tho are truly profound lessons for today’s writers. In the heart of veteran journalist Huu Tho, he hopes that generations of Vietnamese journalists will always uphold their “family traditions” no matter what the circumstances.

3. In the current social context, there are many factors affecting the preservation and training of ethics of Vietnamese revolutionary journalists. In addition to the main achievements, the field of journalism is raising many issues directly related to the ethics of journalists. In fact, we have witnessed a number of cases of reporters and journalists violating professional ethics and being severely punished by law.

Furthermore, we are doing journalism in the era of artificial intelligence and digital transformation taking place strongly and extensively. With undeniable advantages, the development of digital technology is posing great challenges to journalism in content management in the face of the risk of increasing fake news, giving rise to legal and ethical problems in journalism...

Such analysis shows that, in any circumstance, journalists must “keep their family’s ethics” to best fulfill the mission of “supporting the righteous and eliminating evil”. Because ethics is the core and foundation of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism over the past 100 years.

To carry out this noble, glorious and proud task, Vietnamese revolutionary journalists must steadfastly practice their profession according to the motto "Bright eyes, pure heart, sharp pen"; strictly implement the Press Law and the 10 professional ethics regulations of Vietnamese journalists... In the process of creating their "brainchild", reporters and journalists need to do it with their hearts, sincerity and honesty. We must make sure that "our hearts are full of kindness, literature and words must live with life with love to last long". As President Ho Chi Minh taught: "To have talent, one must have virtue. To have talent without virtue, corruption and depravity are harmful to the country".

Integrity of talent and virtue is a consistent and continuous requirement for cadres in general and journalists in particular. In any circumstance, journalists must constantly improve their knowledge, hone their professional skills, moral qualities and always remind themselves to have “bright eyes, pure hearts, sharp pens”, worthy of being pioneers on the ideological and cultural fronts of the Party, State and people; thereby making an important contribution to building a clean and strong Vietnamese revolutionary press, advancing with the country in a new era of prosperity and well-being.
