It's no longer a private matter.
For a long time, problems arising within families were often considered private matters. Many women and children were victims of domestic violence but did not dare to speak out. Marital conflicts and generational clashes were largely resolved within the family or silently endured. With the development of society, the perception of the role of the family has gradually changed. The family is no longer simply seen as a place to live together under one roof, but has become the primary environment for shaping a person's character.
Based on that understanding, family-related work has been gradually and extensively implemented from the provincial level to the grassroots. Models for preventing and combating domestic violence, sustainable family development clubs, trusted community centers, and mediation groups in residential areas have been established and maintained, becoming a support system for many families when facing difficulties.

In Phan Xa village, Le Thuy commune, the Happy Family Club has become a familiar address for many families in the village. After 8 years of operation, the club currently has 65 members. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam, the club's chairperson, after many years of maintaining activities, the most noticeable change is the transformation in the members' awareness.
“Previously, many people were reluctant to share family conflicts for fear of social stigma. Now, family members are more open and willing to discuss and find solutions together. Through each meeting, many young couples understand their responsibilities better, husbands learn to share household chores with their wives, and parents spend more time caring for and listening to their children. As a result, many conflicts are resolved as soon as they arise, preventing unfortunate incidents from occurring,” Ms. Tam said.
These changes are clearly reflected in real life. While in 2010, the former Quang Tri province recorded over 1,760 cases of domestic violence, by 2024, this number had dropped to only 19. In the former Quang Binh province, the number of domestic violence cases decreased from 540 to 30. To date, the entire province has established hundreds of models for preventing and combating domestic violence, sustainable family development clubs, and nearly 1,600 community-based trusted addresses.
Values passed down through generations
In Ward 3, Trieu Phong Commune, the family of Mr. Do Van Tue has been mentioned by the local community for many years as a model cultural family. What makes his family special is not the fact that four generations live together under one roof, but the way the generations maintain harmony in their daily lives.
Every afternoon, after work and school, the family members gather to exercise, play volleyball, and prepare dinner together. These simple activities have become a bond connecting four generations under one roof. At dinner, everyone gathers together, sharing stories from their day.
Mr. Do Van Tue believes that the most important things in a family are love, mutual respect, and the responsible role model of adults for their children and grandchildren. Having been awarded the title of "Culturally Exemplary Family" for many years, what Mr. Tue's family has preserved is not just the certificates of merit, but the bond between generations, the filial piety of their children and grandchildren, and the family traditions passed down from generation to generation.
As society develops, the role of the family in community development becomes increasingly evident. As a village head at a relatively young age, Mr. Ho Hien of Ta Ra village, Dan Hoa commune, has always been exemplary in economic development, building a cultural life, and encouraging villagers to send their children to school. Together with his wife, they have built an economic model based on livestock farming and forestry, and they also share their production experience to help many other households develop.
What is most valuable are the family values that the couple are upholding. Mutual respect, a spirit of equality in family life, a commitment to their children's education, and responsibility to the community have helped the family consistently achieve the title of "Culturally Exemplary Family" for many years.
In Ta Ra village today, 100% of children attend school. This achievement is thanks to the contributions of many forces, including influential figures like Mr. Ho Hien. Through his own life and family's experiences, he has contributed to spreading awareness about building progressive, happy, and sustainable families.
Building a foundation from each home
Looking back over the past 25 years, it is easy to see that family-related work in Quang Tri has created positive changes in social life. The fine traditional values of Vietnamese families continue to be preserved. Awareness of gender equality, children's rights, and the role of women in the family and society is increasingly enhanced. In 2024, the entire province had over 167,000 households achieving the title of "Culturally Advanced Family," accounting for 95.6% of the total number of households. This figure reflects the spread of the movement to build a cultured way of life from each family and residential area.
According to Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province, a noteworthy achievement after 25 years of implementing family-related work is the positive shift in the awareness of all levels, sectors, and people regarding the position and role of the family. The family is increasingly recognized as the foundation of society, the primary environment for character formation, preserving cultural values, and fostering intergenerational bonds.
“The achievements we have today are the result of the synchronized efforts of the entire political system. The movement to build cultured families is increasingly deepening; many models of happy families, families dedicated to learning, and families excelling in economic development are being replicated, contributing to improving the material and spiritual lives of the people and spreading positive values in every home. Building prosperous, progressive, happy, and civilized families is both a goal and a driving force for development. In the coming time, the Culture sector will continue to innovate the content and methods of implementing family work, building more models suitable to reality, so that the positive values of the family continue to be preserved and promoted in the context of modern society,” Ms. Ha emphasized.
Whether in the plains or the mountains, whether in multi-generational families or young homes, what is always nurtured are the core values of love, sharing, and responsibility among family members. This is also the most sustainable achievement of family work. Because behind the statistics or cultural titles, what remains are peaceful homes. There, each person is loved, protected, and grows up with a sense of responsibility towards themselves, their family, and their community.
