Students at Tan Duc Primary School read books and learn about Cham culture.
At Tan Duc Primary School (Phuoc Huu commune), where most students are children of the Cham ethnic group, learning the Cham language is maintained regularly. Each week, there are two lessons to familiarize the children with the written and spoken language of their ethnic group. Watching the children carefully write each Cham character in their notebooks, many people are moved because each character they write today is a way for the Cham language to continue to be spoken and read in the future. Truong Thao Nhien, a 5th-grade student at Tan Duc Primary School, shared: "I really love learning the Cham language. When communicating with my friends, I always use Cham. Through the Cham language lessons, I feel more love for Cham culture."

The teacher guides the students in writing the Cham script, incorporating illustrative images into the lesson.
To make students enjoy learning the Cham language, teachers need to find engaging teaching methods. Nowadays, many teachers not only teach using textbooks but also use images and videos to make lessons easier to understand. When students see images of the Katê festival, Cham costumes, Cham towers, Cham musical instruments, etc., they will find it easier to learn. Teacher Han Thi Kim Anh (Tan Duc Primary School) said: "I always try to innovate my teaching methods to create interest for students in each lesson. When I go to class, I prepare lesson plans, design lectures, and use vivid pictures and images, combining them with the application of information technology in line with digital transformation. Through specific images, especially about the colors and culture of our ethnic group, students can easily visualize and understand the lesson better. From there, they become more fond of learning the Cham language and enhance their awareness of preserving their ethnic cultural identity. Not only in the classroom, the school also organizes extracurricular activities, cultural events, and clubs so that students have an environment to speak Cham with each other. This is very important because if a language is only learned without being used, it will be quickly forgotten."
Contributing to the preservation and promotion of national cultural identity.

A Cham language lesson at Chat Thuong Primary School.
At Chat Thuong Primary School (Phuoc Hau commune) – where there are many Cham students – the children begin learning the Cham language in the first grade. Initially, they learn the alphabet and pronunciation, then practice reading and writing the Cham script. However, teachers here share that the current learning time is only two lessons per week, less than before, while learning materials and reference books are lacking. This somewhat affects the children's learning.
According to statistics, in the 2025-2026 school year, the entire province will have 32 primary schools. 317 classes, 8,890 students, and 38 teachers teach the Cham language in 9 communes and wards with large Cham populations, including Phuoc Dinh, Thuan Nam, Ninh Phuoc, Phuoc Huu, Phuoc Hau, Xuan Hai, Ninh Hai, Do Vinh, and Bao An. Despite the difficulties, many teachers are dedicated and strive to innovate their teaching methods, organizing discussions, group work, storytelling, poetry reading, and learning about customs and traditions.
According to Ms. Su Thi Duyen Phan, Deputy Principal of Chat Thuong Primary School, teaching the Cham language in the school not only helps students use their mother tongue well, but also plays an important role in preserving and promoting the ethnic cultural identity. The school always encourages teachers to innovate teaching methods in a student-centered approach, developing students' abilities; and at the same time, integrate learning about culture and traditional customs to create interest in learning. In addition, the cooperation between the school, parents, and the community also contributes to creating an environment for students to use the Cham language in daily communication. As a result, many students become more confident, understand their ethnic traditions better; and raise their awareness of preserving the Cham language, writing system, and culture.
