Amidst the vibrant atmosphere of spring, drops of blood are silently shed by volunteers, extending lives and contributing to a complete spring, a spring of sharing and hope.

The Lunar New Year is a time for family reunions, but it is also a time when blood shortages for treatment and emergency care often occur at medical facilities. To ensure a sufficient blood supply during the Lunar New Year, various levels of government, agencies, and localities have focused on organizing voluntary blood donation programs and spreading the spirit of humanitarian blood donation in the community. The donated blood has become a meaningful New Year's gift for many patients.

In the cool spring weather, many people set aside their busy work schedules and arrived early to participate in the "Red Sunday" blood donation program. Ms. Le Thi Thuy Trang was delighted to participate in blood donation, doing something meaningful during the Lunar New Year. She shared: "In recent years, I have consistently participated in blood donation. Because I understand the role of blood donation and the importance of blood for the treatment and emergency care of patients, especially during the Lunar New Year. So when I learned about the 'Red Sunday' event, I registered to participate with the desire to share my precious blood and bring hope to patients during the spring days."

More than anyone else, those working in the healthcare sector understand the hardships faced by patients needing blood and the blood shortage. Therefore, during the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the Department of Health and the Provincial General Hospital, in coordination with the Provincial Red Cross Society, organized the "Drop of Red in White Blouse" program. Participating in the 2026 "Drop of Red in White Blouse" blood donation program, Dr. Nguyen Van Manh shared: "Seeing patients' families and patients anxiously searching for blood for treatment is heartbreaking, especially during the Lunar New Year, so I regularly donate blood. It's not only the responsibility of a doctor but also a spirit of sharing with those in difficult circumstances."

Along with various units and sectors, many localities also actively organized blood donation programs during the Lunar New Year to mobilize a safe blood supply. At the beginning of February, the Steering Committee for Blood Donation in Tinh Gia ward organized a Blood Donation Day in response to the campaign to encourage blood donation during the Lunar New Year and the Spring Festival of 2026. The program attracted hundreds of civil servants, employees, and workers to donate blood and received more than 620 units of blood.

Thanks to the proactive organization of blood donation activities and the active participation of the people in blood donation, the Provincial Steering Committee for Blood Donation issued a plan in December 2025 to organize the "Blood Donation Campaign during the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival in 2026". The campaign includes blood donation activities such as: "Red Sunday" and "Drop of Red in White Blouse".

In addition, the Provincial Red Cross Society always maintains regular connections with blood donation clubs and groups to be ready to mobilize a supply of live blood during the Lunar New Year holiday. Thanks to this, many patients needing blood transfusions due to emergencies or serious accidents during the holiday were promptly helped by members of blood donation clubs.

Not only during the Lunar New Year, but every year the Provincial Steering Committee for Blood Donation encourages units, localities, and businesses to actively mobilize officials, civil servants, employees, and workers to participate in blood donation. Accordingly, the Steering Committee for Blood Donation and the Red Cross Societies at all levels have intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts to raise public awareness about the role and significance of blood and blood donation. The methods of communication have been innovated and diversified, including through mass media, social networks, loudspeakers, banners, posters; and the organization of mobile propaganda teams.

Beyond simply promoting blood donation, the various levels of the association also focus on honoring and rewarding exemplary blood donors and families who have donated blood multiple times. This timely recognition has helped to strengthen trust and encourage compassionate individuals to continue their charitable work.

To ensure the safety of blood donors, the Provincial Steering Committee for Blood Donation, in coordination with local authorities and units, arranges the timing of blood donation events; provides sufficient personnel and equipment at blood donation sites; and regularly encourages and motivates people to participate in blood donation.

The Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society and Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Blood Donation Campaign Steering Committee, Nguyen Quoc Thanh, said: "We determined that to ensure sufficient blood for the Lunar New Year, we must proactively plan ahead. Accordingly, we have developed a plan and closely coordinated with the health sector, youth organizations, and localities to organize blood donation drives before, during, and immediately after Tet. Many people have understood that blood donation is a practical act of compassion, regardless of the time, and have proactively registered to donate blood during the Lunar New Year."

Blood donation is not only an act of charity but also a vivid expression of the tradition of "loving others as you love yourself." Amidst the vibrant atmosphere of spring, drops of donated blood silently flow, extending life and contributing to a complete spring, a spring of sharing and hope.
