In Yen Thang commune, environmental protection is maintained through various regular activities at the grassroots level, such as environmental sanitation campaigns, clearing bushes, unclogging drains, and collecting waste along inter-village and residential roads. Movements like "Green Sunday," "All citizens participate in environmental protection," and building bright, green, clean, and beautiful residential areas are regularly implemented with the participation of youth union members, association members, and residents. The local broadcasting system is also used to disseminate information and remind people to reduce the use of plastic bags, dispose of waste properly, and maintain the general landscape. Environmental protection is incorporated into village meetings and activities of mass organizations and schools. Villages review and supplement their regulations and customs to strengthen community responsibility in maintaining general hygiene, protecting water sources, and preserving the residential landscape.

Not only Yen Thang, but many mountainous localities in the province are also maintaining environmental cleanup activities, linked to rural development and improving the quality of life for the people. Pu Luong commune regularly organizes general environmental sanitation campaigns in residential areas, inter-village roads, and public areas; mobilizing people to bring waste to collection points and not to dump waste into streams, canals, and vacant land. Public awareness campaigns are conducted through village meetings and the public address system. In addition, the locality maintains the collection and transportation of household waste; strengthens inspections and reminds businesses, accommodation establishments, and residents to comply with environmental protection regulations. The rate of household solid waste collection and treatment in the area reaches approximately 97%, contributing to preserving the landscape and improving the quality of life.

FROM THE NEWSPAPER TO LIFE - Final Article: Technology Changes, the Mission Remains UnchangedIt was past noon, and many people had left the hall for lunch. At a table by the window, Le Thien Thanh, a reporter from the An Giang Provincial Newspaper and Radio-Television, was still intently focused on his computer screen. On the table were the camera's memory card, conference documents, and unprocessed audio clips. Less than an hour after finishing his reporting session, he was already embarking on another "race": editing the footage, writing commentary, and sending the news report back to the editorial office.

Mr. Ha Dinh Nech, owner of an accommodation facility in Kho Muong village, believes that a clean environment and preserved landscape not only improve the quality of life for residents but also create a beautiful image for the locality. According to him, every resident has a responsibility to maintain the shared living space through small actions, such as disposing of garbage in designated areas or participating in community sanitation activities.

Despite many positive changes, environmental protection in mountainous areas still faces numerous challenges. In Yen Thang commune, the biggest obstacle lies in the terrain and resources. The commune has 1,469 households living in 9 villages. The area is large, mainly hilly and mountainous, so many of the commune's roads are narrow and difficult to travel on during the rainy season, making garbage collection and transportation time-consuming and costly. Currently, only about 250 households participate in garbage collection services, while most household waste is still disposed of by residents themselves through burial or burning at home. Funding for environmental work is limited, and the main means of collection are tricycles, which do not meet the actual needs.

Mr. Vu The Vinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Yen Thang commune, said: "The locality identifies environmental protection as a regular task associated with building new rural areas. In the coming time, the commune will continue to maintain environmental sanitation activities, promote propaganda and mobilize people to participate in waste collection. At the same time, we will request the higher authorities to provide more resources to gradually overcome difficulties in infrastructure and means serving environmental protection work."

While Yen Thang commune faces challenges due to terrain and resources, Pu Luong commune is under pressure from the ever-increasing amount of waste generated alongside the expansion of service activities and the lives of its residents. The large geographical area and the remote location of many villages make waste collection and transportation difficult. Some areas are not suitable for establishing centralized waste collection or processing points. Meanwhile, waste sorting at source has not yet become a widespread habit among the people, resulting in a large volume of waste that still needs to be collected and processed.

These difficulties are also common in many mountainous communes in the province. The large geographical area, scattered population, and underdeveloped transportation infrastructure increase the cost of waste collection and treatment. Funding for environmental protection is limited, while the awareness and habit of sorting waste at source among some residents have not kept pace with the requirements. Therefore, in addition to the efforts of local authorities, environmental protection in mountainous areas requires the regular participation of all levels and sectors.

From campaigns to clean up village roads and alleys to maintaining environmental protection movements in residential areas, many mountainous localities are gradually fostering a sense of landscape preservation within their communities. Despite remaining challenges in infrastructure and resources, the involvement of local authorities and the collective efforts of the people are contributing to making the villages at the foot of the mountains increasingly green, clean, and livable.
