On February 18, 2025, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 49 on undergrounding and upgrading the external telecommunications cable network in the province. Implementing this plan, a practical review of roads in the four wards of Ky Lua, Tam Thanh, Luong Van Tri, and Dong Kinh revealed that 11 roads have not been upgraded for many years. The current state of telecommunications cables hanging on utility poles is still crisscrossed, multi-layered, and sagging, not only detracting from urban aesthetics but also posing potential safety risks.
In response to this situation, the Power Company and telecommunications businesses in the area have coordinated with the People's Committees of the wards to implement a plan to reorganize and bundle the cable system on 11 streets in 4 wards.
Observations along central streets such as Bac Son, Tran Phu, Ben Bac, and To Thi show that many sections of the cable system have been neatly bundled and rearranged according to standards; utility poles and telecommunication poles have also been renovated, contributing to a more open and uncluttered urban landscape.
Ms. Hoang Thuy Ninh, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Ky Lua Ward, said: "We are coordinating with the electricity, telecommunications, and cable television sectors to renovate several key roads in the area. Specifically, the units are reviewing and removing unused cables, bundling them neatly, tagging the cables, and arranging them scientifically according to standards, ensuring that each section is tidy and safe. To date, the renovation work has been basically completed on Tran Dang Ninh and Ba Trieu roads; for the remaining roads such as 3-2 Street and Na Lang Street, the ward is continuing to coordinate with telecommunications companies to complete the work as soon as possible."
Mr. Nguyen Van Luan, Head of the Technical and Investment Department of VNPT Lang Son, said: "The work of bundling and clearing cables requires high technical skills and careful execution to ensure that it does not disrupt communication for people and businesses. During the implementation process, the unit mobilized 15-20 technical staff and workers to directly carry out the work. Currently, we are continuing to coordinate and ensure compliance with regulations."
Despite some difficulties, the renovation process was implemented synchronously, minimizing the impact on people's lives and businesses. The ward authorities also actively propagated and encouraged people to create favorable conditions for the construction unit, while supervising to ensure that the renovation was carried out in accordance with regulations.
To date, with a total length of over 21 km for the renovation project, the construction units have completed 3/4 of the planned items. Specifically, 649 clamps have been installed at the poles; steel cables and cable rings have been pulled, marked, and placed into the rings with a total length of over 21,812m. The items for clearing old wires, bundling cables neatly, and completing the renovation have reached over 80% of the planned volume.
Mr. Nguyen Son, from Tam Thanh ward, shared: "Previously, the cables were tangled and looked very unsightly. Many sections of cables ran close to the low-voltage power grid or were bundled together with wires after the meter, posing a potential safety risk. Now that they've been neatly bundled, the streets are tidier, and we really support it."
Initial results from 11 streets show that with the decisive involvement of the authorities, close coordination among units, and the consensus of the people, the urban landscape is gradually becoming neater and more orderly. Based on this, the wards aim to basically complete the urban cable system beautification work before the Lunar New Year, towards building a civilized and safe Lang Son .
