Professor Vo Tong Xuan has passed away.

On the morning of August 19th, information from Nam Can Tho University stated that Professor Vo Tong Xuan, People's Teacher, Labor Hero, and Honorary Rector of Nam Can Tho University, passed away at 7:27 AM on August 19th at a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.

Earlier, at the end of 2022, Professor Vo Tong Xuan suffered a critical heart attack. After many days in a deep coma, he miraculously recovered. However, since this serious illness, Professor Vo Tong Xuan's health has deteriorated significantly.

Recently, his condition worsened, and despite the dedicated treatment and care from the doctors, due to his advanced age and frail health, Professor Vo Tong Xuan passed away.

People's Teacher, Labor Hero, Professor-Doctor Vo Tong Xuan was born on September 6, 1940, in Ba Chuc, Tri Ton District, An Giang Province. He held many positions, including Vice Rector of Can Tho University, Rector of An Giang University, and Rector of Nam Can Tho University. He is also the first Vietnamese scientist to receive numerous prestigious national and international awards and honors, including the Vinfuture Award in 2023.

The funeral of Professor Vo Tong Xuan is expected to be held at the Ho Chi Minh City Funeral Home, after which he will be taken back to his hometown for burial.
