Following the signing of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth for €72 million, the Spanish manager officially surpassed the €2 billion mark in player transfers during his time managing Manchester City.
According to Transfermarkt , since arriving at the Etihad Stadium in 2016, Guardiola has spent a total of approximately €2.03 billion to bring in 66 players for Man City. This figure puts him among the highest-spending managers in history, and brings his total investment in his coaching career to €2.58 billion, the highest among contemporary managers.
These expensive signings clearly reflect Guardiola's philosophy of team building. Jack Grealish remains the record-breaking transfer at €117.5 million, followed by Josko Gvardiol (€90 million), Omar Marmoush (€75 million), Antoine Semenyo (€72 million), Ruben Dias (€71.6 million), and Rodri (€70 million).
In addition, Guardiola also brought in big stars like Zlatan Ibrahimovic during his time at Barcelona, and Riyad Mahrez, Aymeric Laporte, and Joao Cancelo at Man City.
In the 2025 winter transfer window alone, Man City spent €218 million on five new signings: Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Bah. This investment was second only to Chelsea, the biggest spender in Europe during the mid-season transfer window.
Despite the controversy surrounding his spending, there's no denying that Guardiola is shaping a rare era of success in modern football.
