According to the Hanoi City Statistics Department, 700 businesses resumed operations, an increase of 13.6%; 1,489 businesses registered for temporary suspension of operations, an increase of 20.3%; and 399 businesses dissolved, a decrease of 2.4%.

Overall, in the first five months of 2025, the city issued business registration certificates to 11,600 newly established enterprises with a registered capital of 106.7 trillion VND, a decrease of 7.2% in the number of enterprises and a decrease of 9.7% in registered capital compared to the same period last year; 5,400 enterprises resumed operations, an increase of 6.1%.
17,800 businesses registered to temporarily suspend operations, an increase of 16.2%; 2,300 businesses dissolved, an increase of 26.6%. The rate of online business registration applications remained at 100%, ensuring quality and timeliness.
According to the Hanoi City Statistics Department, the Industrial Production Index (IIP) in May is estimated to have increased by 0.8% compared to the previous month and by 7.2% compared to the same period in 2024.
Specifically, the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 0.2% and 7.4%; electricity production and distribution increased by 7.2% and 5.5%; water supply and waste treatment increased by 0.5% and 7.9%; and the mining industry increased by 6.6% and decreased by 16.7%.

It is estimated that in the first five months of 2025, the Industrial Production Index (IIP) increased by 5.5% compared to the same period last year. Specifically, manufacturing increased by 5.5%; electricity production and distribution increased by 5.2%; water supply and waste treatment increased by 5%; and mining decreased by 9.9%.
Over the past five months, several manufacturing sectors have seen significant growth compared to the same period last year, including: machinery and equipment manufacturing (up 28.3%); non-metallic mineral product manufacturing (up 16.8%); textile manufacturing (up 14%); motor vehicle manufacturing (up 12.9%); leather and related products manufacturing (up 12.9%); garment manufacturing (up 9.6%); and metal manufacturing (up 8.3%).
Conversely, some sectors experienced a decline compared to the same period in 2024, including electrical equipment manufacturing (down 4.3%), paper and paper product manufacturing (down 4.1%), and transportation equipment manufacturing (down 2.3%).
According to the General Statistics Office, the number of workers employed in industrial enterprises is estimated to have increased by 0.6% by the end of May 2025 compared to the end of the previous month, and decreased by 0.5% compared to the same period last year.
Overall, in the first five months of this year, the labor utilization index of industrial enterprises was equivalent to the same period last year, with the number of workers employed in foreign-invested enterprises increasing by 2.8%; the non-state sector decreasing by 3.8%; and the state sector decreasing by 0.9%.
Broken down by economic sector, employment in the manufacturing sector increased by 0.1% (including machinery and equipment manufacturing up 21.9%; garment manufacturing up 5.7%; leather and related products manufacturing up 4.9%; tobacco manufacturing up 4.1%; electronics, computer and optical products manufacturing up 3.5%; prefabricated metal products manufacturing up 3.4%; other manufacturing industries up 4.1%); electricity and gas production and distribution remained similar to the same period; water supply and waste treatment increased by 2.5%; and mining decreased by 29.1%.
