Remove multiple "bottlenecks"

Mr. Tran Tung's house (residing in Dong Duong village, Dong Duong commune) was affected by the National Highway 14E renovation and upgrade project, losing approximately 16 square meters of residential land. In the spirit of the common good, his family agreed with the land clearance plan. Even before receiving the compensation, he hired workers to demolish his fence, gate, and small shop to rebuild and hand over the land to the investor.

Mr. Tung shared that this road was severely degraded and narrow. When two trucks went in opposite directions, motorbikes had to stop and pull over to the side. Therefore, he was very happy when the government decided to upgrade and expand it. His neighbors also actively supported the project and promptly handed over the land. Thanks to this, National Highway 14E through Dong Duong village, the first section of the project, has been paved with asphalt concrete for over a year now.

National Highway 14E, passing through Phuoc Hiep commune, frequently experiences landslides during the rainy season. This situation makes it difficult for the locality to attract investment. It is also a vital artery connecting the coastal area to the Ho Chi Minh Highway, but the presence of numerous "bottlenecks" hinders the development of trade and services in the localities along the route.

Meanwhile, over the past two years, traffic on National Highway 14D has increased rapidly, mainly consisting of trucks carrying goods from Laos via the Nam Giang International Border Gate. As a result, the connecting route from the Ho Chi Minh Highway to this border gate has deteriorated significantly. The road is in poor condition, narrow, and has many sharp turns, causing travel time to increase by approximately four hours, even though the entire route is only just over 74km long.

A local official from Nam Giang commune shared that the people are simply happy if they can travel on National Highway 14D without traffic congestion. Therefore, the fact that the government has allocated a large portion of its resources to support Da Nang city in implementing the renovation and upgrading project has greatly pleased the voters.

Promoting development

National Highway 14E connects to the East-West Economic Corridor via the Ho Chi Minh Highway, leading to the Bo Y International Border Gate (Quang Ngai). The route also connects to the East-West Economic Corridor 2 via the Ho Chi Minh Highway and National Highway 14D, leading to the Nam Giang International Border Gate. According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Thanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, the completed project will contribute to improving transportation capacity and promoting the development of logistics services by facilitating the transportation of goods through the two aforementioned international border gates to Chu Lai Port, the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, and the Dung Quat Economic Zone (Quang Ngai).

National Highway 14D is severely degraded and poses a serious traffic safety hazard, yet the volume of transport vehicles continues to increase. This is because the shorter travel distances on the route encourage cargo owners and transport companies to reduce transportation costs and facilitate cross-border transactions. In particular, National Highway 14D offers many advantages in attracting large volumes of goods and passengers from northeastern Thailand, Myanmar, and the Indian Ocean to the seaports of Da Nang and Hue.

According to Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Nam Hung, the project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 14D is a key project aimed at completing the transportation infrastructure, serving the people's safe travel, promoting socio-economic development, and ensuring national defense and security. The expanded road will facilitate the transportation of goods, connect with neighboring Laos through the Nam Giang International Border Gate, and enhance the competitiveness of the economy.

It can be affirmed that the two projects to renovate, upgrade, and expand National Highway 14E and National Highway 14D will remove existing "bottlenecks." Once completed and put into use, the projects will also open up opportunities to promote the transformation of the logistics service industry, facilitating the flow of goods from source to sea…

The project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 14E (section km15+270 - km89+700) has a total investment of over 1,848.2 billion VND from the central government budget. The project has a roadbed width of 9m; the section passing through the North-South railway intersection in Thang Binh commune has a roadbed width of 12m.

The project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 14D has a total investment of 4,518 billion VND; of which 4,513 billion VND comes from increased revenue and savings in the central government budget; and 5 billion VND from the city budget (for investment preparation). The project scale includes a roadbed width of 9m and a bridge width of 9m.
