Lammens has given MU many positive signs. |
When Erik ten Hag was Manchester United's manager, he had some heated exchanges with goalkeeping scout Tony Coton (who has since left MU). The debate concerned the signing of Andre Onana.
Ten Hag wanted to hear Coton's opinion on the Cameroonian goalkeeper, but Coton consistently advocated for signing Lammens. This displeased Ten Hag. Ultimately, the club decided to sign Onana to appease Ten Hag.
Two years later, under Ruben Amorim, a similar situation occurred. The Portuguese manager wanted to sign Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa for a significantly higher fee (over £30 million). However, this time Coton persistently persuaded Technical Director Jason Wilcox to buy Lammens instead.
Manager Amorim was even frustrated on several occasions by the Manchester United scouting team's decision to buy this player. However, under the leadership of Wilcox and Director of Scouting Christopher Vivell, Manchester United carefully considered all of Coton's reports on both Martinez and Lammens, while also considering the manager's wishes.
Ultimately, the MU management concluded that, both professionally and off the pitch, in the short and long term, the Belgian goalkeeper was the better option.
So far, the £18.1 million signing has proven to be a smart move by MU. Since the start of the season, Lammens has demonstrated his talent and is a worthy prospect for MU's goalkeeping position.
