On August 11, the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) arrested nearly 8 suspects nationwide for posting death threats on online websites. The KNPA said that as of August 120, authorities had detected 11 death threats on websites and arrested 8 suspects for making those threats. According to KNPA, teenagers make up 315% of all suspects who spread murder threats online.
Korean police and prosecutors will issue severe punishments to those who post these threats to reassure the public. Threats of this type on the Internet spiked after a knife stabbing left one person dead and 1 others injured at a store in Seongnam, south of Seoul on August 13.
