In Ninh Thuan province, over 200 natural forest trees in Phuoc Dai commune, Bac Ai district, were drilled with holes and poisoned with chemicals. Authorities are searching for the perpetrators.
The management board of the Song Sat - Song Trau upstream protection forest discovered signs of poisoning two days ago in the forest area under its management in Phuoc Dai commune. Many trees had holes drilled into them and chemicals poured in. At the scene, forest protection forces recovered empty bottles of the herbicide "Trau Den" (Black Buffalo) brand.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan province inspected and recorded that more than 200 natural forest trees (10-20 cm in diameter) had been poisoned. Of these, 7 trees had dried leaves and showed signs of dying. This area is a natural forest with main tree species such as: *Euphorbia hirta*, *Cratagus pinnatifida*, *Acanthus na*, *Cassava oleifera*, *Crataegus pinnatifida*, *Crataegus pinnatifida*, *Crataegus pinnatifida*, etc.
"This is a new method of destroying natural forests; this situation has never occurred in the area before," a representative from the Ninh Thuan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development stated.
Currently, the forest owner has set up a temporary checkpoint to protect the scene and is implementing measures to save the poisoned trees by spraying water into each drilled hole in the tree trunks to wash away some of the chemicals.
On September 20th, the Chairman of the Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee directed the Provincial Police to coordinate with forest rangers and forest owners to verify and investigate the perpetrators who poisoned forest trees in sub-area 70 in Bac Ai district.
