Ninh Thuan: More than 200 natural forest trees in Phuoc Dai commune, Bac Ai district were drilled and poisoned with chemicals. Authorities are searching for the culprit.
The management board of the protective forest upstream of the Song Sat - Song Trau inter-lake discovered that the forest under its management in Phuoc Dai commune showed signs of being poisoned two days ago. Many trees had holes drilled and chemicals poured into them. At the scene, the forest protection force collected empty bottles of the Trau Den brand herbicide.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan province inspected and recorded that more than 200 natural forest trees (diameter 10-20 cm) were poisoned. Of these, 7 trees had dry leaves and were showing signs of drying up. This area is a natural forest with main tree species such as: Thanh Nganh, Ca Nhi, Coc Rung, Ma Na, Khoai Gua, Ca Gang, Cam Xe...
"This is a new method of destroying natural forests, this situation has never happened in the area," said a representative of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan province.
Currently, the forest owner has set up a temporary checkpoint to protect the scene and is implementing measures to save the poisoned trees by spraying water into each hole drilled on the tree trunk, washing away the chemicals.
On September 20, the Chairman of the Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee directed the provincial police to coordinate with forest rangers and forest owners to verify and investigate the culprit who poisoned forest trees in sub-region 70 in Bac Ai district.
