Thoai Son celebrates the complete elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses.

Joy and excitement spread throughout the communes and towns, especially among policy beneficiary families and poor and near-poor households who had just been resettled. Thanks to the decisive involvement of the entire political system from the district to the grassroots level, along with the joint efforts of the people, organizations, and businesses, Thoai Son successfully achieved its set goals, even finishing ahead of schedule, bringing a brighter future to those in difficult circumstances.

The town of Nui Sap – one of the shining examples of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses – has witnessed a significant change in the lives of 19 families. Previously, they lived in makeshift houses, facing numerous difficulties and shortages. But now, 10 new, sturdy houses and 9 houses that have been renovated provide them with a real home. These houses, ranging in size from 24 to 32 square meters , are built according to the "three solid" criteria (solid floor with ceramic tiles, reinforced concrete columns, walls, zinc frame, and corrugated iron roof), and have enclosed toilets.

The total funding for the 19 houses amounted to 995 million VND, demonstrating the profound concern of all levels of government and the collective efforts of the community. Resources were mobilized from the central, provincial, and district budgets, along with valuable support from TBS An Giang Joint Stock Company, An Giang Newspaper, the active efforts of the local authorities, and the contributions from the families themselves.

Nguyen Ngoc Diep, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nui Sap town, shared: “The 19 houses started construction on March 1st and were completed in just one month, far exceeding the planned schedule. This is the result of the unity and joint efforts of political and social organizations, units, businesses, and benevolent hearts. We believe that these new homes will create great motivation, helping poor and near-poor families to settle down, work confidently, and rise out of poverty sustainably.”

In the town of Óc Eo, a region rich in Khmer cultural identity, 37 solidarity houses were handed over to poor households, near-poor households, and Khmer ethnic minority households facing housing difficulties (including 24 houses for Khmer ethnic minority people). The total cost of implementation was over 2.6 billion VND. All 37 houses fully meet the criteria of "solid foundation, solid frame and walls, solid roof," ensuring long-term safety and stability for users.

To achieve this result, the Party Committee and the government of Oc Eo town proactively coordinated closely with the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations to review and compile a list of cases needing support in a specific and transparent manner. At the same time, propaganda and mobilization efforts were intensified, fostering a spirit of mutual assistance within the community. Besides housing support, the locality also implemented many other livelihood support solutions, such as vocational training, job placement, and support for production loans… helping people not only have a home but also have the opportunity to stabilize their lives and escape poverty sustainably.

Overjoyed to have a new, sturdy house, Mrs. Chau Thi Say (residing in Oc Eo town) said emotionally: “After so many years living in a dilapidated thatched house, now we have a spacious new house to live in. My family is very happy and grateful!” Mrs. Say's house, worth over 70 million VND, is the result of support from the local government and generous donations, bringing her a new, safer, and more stable life.

According to the Thoai Son District Steering Committee for the Elimination of Temporary and Dilapidated Houses, the locality completed 27 houses for people with meritorious services to the revolution (7 newly built), and 145 houses for poor and near-poor households (125 newly built). The total cost of the program was over 12 billion VND. This funding was mobilized from various sources, including: 810 million VND from the central budget; over 6.8 billion VND transferred by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province; over 1.2 billion VND from the 5% savings of the state budget; and the remainder from valuable support from philanthropists and matching funds from the families.
