Thoai Son is filled with joy after removing temporary and dilapidated houses.
The joy and excitement spread throughout the communes and towns, especially among policy families, poor and near-poor households who had just been resettled. With the drastic participation of the entire political system from the district to the grassroots level, together with the joint efforts of the people, organizations and businesses, Thoai Son successfully completed the set goals, even finishing ahead of schedule, bringing a brighter future to those in difficult circumstances.
Nui Sap Town - one of the bright spots of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses - has witnessed a clear change in the lives of 19 households. Previously, they had to live in temporary houses, facing many difficulties and shortages. But now, 10 new solid houses and 9 solidly repaired houses have given them a real home. The houses have an area of 24 - 32m2 , built according to the "3 hard" criteria (hard tiled floors, reinforced concrete columns, walls, zinc frames, corrugated iron roofs), and private toilets.
The total funding for 19 houses is up to 995 million VND, demonstrating the deep concern of authorities at all levels and the cooperation of the community. Resources are mobilized from the central, provincial and district budgets, along with the valuable support of TBS An Giang Joint Stock Company, An Giang Newspaper, the active mobilization of the locality, as well as the response of families.
Secretary of the Party Committee of Nui Sap Town Nguyen Ngoc Diep shared: “The 19 houses were started on March 1 and completed after only 1 month, far exceeding the planned schedule. This is the result of the consensus and joint efforts of socio-political organizations, units, businesses and kind hearts. We believe that these new homes will create great motivation, helping poor and near-poor families to settle down, work and produce with peace of mind, and escape poverty sustainably.”
In Oc Eo town, a land rich in Khmer cultural identity, 37 Great Solidarity houses were handed over to poor households, near-poor households, and Khmer ethnic minority households facing housing difficulties (of which 24 houses were for Khmer ethnic minorities). The total cost of implementation was more than 2.6 billion VND. All 37 houses fully met the criteria of "hard foundation, hard frame - wall, hard roof", ensuring long-term safety and stability for users.
To achieve this result, the Party Committee and the government of Oc Eo town proactively coordinated closely with the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations to review and make a list of cases in need of support in a specific and transparent manner. At the same time, propaganda and mobilization work for organizations and individuals was also promoted, arousing the spirit of "mutual love" in the community. In addition to housing support, the locality also synchronously implemented many other livelihood support solutions, such as: Vocational training, job referrals, support for production loans... helping people not only have a roof over their heads, but also have the opportunity to stabilize their lives and escape poverty sustainably.
In the joy of having a new solid house, Mrs. Chau Thi Say (residing in Oc Eo town) was moved: "After many years living in a dilapidated thatched house, now having a new, spacious house to live in, my family is very happy and joyful!". Mrs. Say's house is worth more than 70 million VND, the result of support from the local government and kindness, bringing her a new, safer and more stable life.
According to the summary of the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Thoai Son District, the locality has completed 27 houses for people with revolutionary contributions (7 new houses), 145 houses for poor and near-poor households (125 new houses). The total cost of implementing the program is more than 12 billion VND. This source of funding is mobilized from many different channels, including: 810 million VND from the Central budget; more than 6.8 billion VND transferred by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province; more than 1.2 billion VND from the 5% savings source of the State budget; the rest is valuable support from benefactors and matching funds from families.
