The memoir, "The Promise of a Pencil," translated by Hai Dang, is a detailed roadmap of how Adam Braun, a promising management consultant at Bain & Company, "rewrote the future of his life" to pursue a seemingly impossible goal.

It all started with a backpacking trip. In India, a poor boy asked Adam, “What do you want most in the world?”, and the boy said he wanted a pencil. That moment inspired Adam to found Pencils of Promise (PoP). This non-governmental organization was born with a simple yet grand purpose: to change the world through education , by building schools and providing essential learning opportunities for impoverished children in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

The book recounts the entire challenging and captivating journey. From PoP's bank account with only $25 and the first school built in Luang Prabang, Laos; to the difficulties in staffing, fundraising, and even the decision to give up a dream salary at Bain to dedicate himself entirely to PoP. Adam shows that even after building 15 schools in just one year, the challenges remained. But he overcame them all with unwavering belief, nurturing PoP into a strong international organization.

This book is not only Adam Braun's personal story but also a guide to self-development. LinkedIn magazine listed it as one of the top five books every 20-year-old should read. In Vietnam, it was also nominated for the 2016 Best Book Award in the Business category, a testament to its practical value.

Reader Pham Quynh Anh (residing in Phuoc Binh ward, Dong Nai province) said: “For me, and perhaps for many other readers, the core value of the book lies in its message: Passion is not just an emotion, but also an action. Adam transformed a fleeting moment into a lifelong career. The Promise of a Pencil is where Adam Braun shares lessons about finding, developing, and igniting passion for work. Reading the book, I experienced many different emotions, sharing in the author's success and being empowered as he faced difficulties without giving up.”

With its simple yet profound language, the book sows in the reader the seeds of self-confidence and a desire for change.
