Understand the law to have a good life and good religion

- "With a gentle and benevolent way of communication, in recent years, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) in Lang Son province has done a good job of propagating so that monks and Buddhists understand the law, live a "good life, good religion", contributing to strengthening the great national unity bloc, building a cultural life in residential areas", that is the comment of Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Lang Son province.

For a long time, the image of brown-robed monks and Buddhists guiding people to release fish properly and participate in cleaning the Ky Cung River every year on the occasion of Ong Cong and Ong Tao Festival (December 23) has become familiar to people in the province. Ms. Hoang Thi Le, a resident of Luong Van Tri ward, shared: Every year, on December 23, I go to Ky Cung River to release fish to see off Ong Cong and Ong Tao. For many years, I have seen monks and Buddhists of Thanh Pagoda guiding people to release fish, collect plastic bags, and discarded votive paper ashes. Everyone happily follows suit, both preserving traditional beauty and protecting the environment.

That simple yet beautiful image is a vivid proof of the spirit of "good life, good religion" that the province's Buddhism has persistently cultivated. Sharing about the way of doing things, Venerable Thich Quang Truyen, Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, said: Since its establishment, the Provincial Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has always been closely connected with social life, firmly upholding the motto "Dharma - Nation - Socialism". During that process, the Executive Committee has regularly paid attention to implementing well the propaganda and dissemination of the Party's policies and the State's laws so that monks and Buddhists can become citizens who understand the law and actively participate in contributing to building the homeland and country to become more and more prosperous and civilized.

With that spirit, in recent years, the Provincial Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has proactively coordinated with the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, the Provincial Police, the Lang Son Provincial Youth Union, the Provincial Youth Union, the Provincial Red Cross, the ward police, the Provincial Elderly Association... to integrate propaganda and dissemination of the Party's guidelines and the State's legal policies; disseminate the law to all Buddhist followers and people of all ethnic groups in the province in weekly and monthly ceremonies, lectures, and major Buddhist festivals. As a result, in the period of 2020 - 2025, the Provincial Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha organized nearly 500 propaganda sessions with over 130,000 Buddhists attending.

The gentle and benevolent way of communication has helped Buddhists and people understand and strictly comply with the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws, actively participate in patriotic emulation movements and campaigns launched by the Fatherland Front at all levels, live a good life and uphold the religion; always be exemplary citizens as well as encourage their children and relatives to comply with the regulations in residential areas and blocks. Every year, over 95% of Buddhist families are cultural families.

When being propagandized and raising awareness, people understand and actively participate in social security activities. As a result, from 2020 to now, the Provincial Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has mobilized monks and Buddhists to contribute to the construction of 60 solidarity houses, 21 "An Lac" bridges in difficult areas; donated more than 9 billion VND for charity and social security work; awarded thousands of scholarships and gifts to the poor and children in special circumstances. In particular, the Provincial Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha also mobilized nearly 450 million VND to support the Covid-19 Vaccine Fund and frontline forces; donated more than 1 billion VND to build border marker inspection routes.

In the coming time, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in the province will continue to closely coordinate with the Fatherland Front and other sectors and organizations to bring the spirit of "protecting the country and bringing peace to the people" into each activity with the hope that each Buddhist will not only be kind in heart, but also do good in life, joining hands to build Lang Son to become more and more prosperous and civilized.
