- From the beginning of March 2026 until now, the situation of smuggling goods in the domestic area has become quite complex, seriously affecting the economy and consumer rights.
In March 2026, through surprise inspections of 29 businesses under its management, the provincial market management force discovered and handled 29 businesses violating regulations on trading smuggled goods, an increase of 37.93% (equivalent to 11 violating businesses) compared to the same month in 2025. The main smuggled items were clothing, shoes, cosmetics, packaged frozen foods, and agricultural supplies…

Mr. Chu Ngoc Ha, Team Leader of Market Management Team No. 1 (responsible for the area of 4 wards), said: In March 2026, the team discovered and handled 9 businesses violating regulations on trading smuggled goods (27 businesses violating regulations were handled in the first 3 months of the year).
Recent cases discovered and handled by the provincial market management force show that smuggled goods are being traded in various segments of the domestic market, from small grocery stores in rural areas to large businesses in urban areas. Smuggled goods are not only found in common consumer items such as clothing, shoes, and cosmetics, but also in items crucial to consumer health, such as food, especially processed and packaged food.
In response to this situation, the Provincial Market Management Department has directed its subordinate market management teams to conduct inspections and prevent smuggled goods from circulating in the market, thereby protecting the interests of legitimate businesses and safeguarding consumer rights.
According to Nguyen Minh Tuan, Deputy Head of the Provincial Market Management Department: In order to thoroughly prevent the illegal trade of smuggled goods, the provincial Market Management force is continuing to review and gather information from the market and intelligence sources... to have a basis for conducting surprise inspections of business establishments, thereby promptly preventing and handling violations before they circulate in the market.
In addition, market management forces are continuing to monitor consumer demand and the types of goods they are purchasing in large quantities at different times in order to focus inspections and supervision; coordinating with relevant agencies to obtain a list of social media addresses of businesses and individuals operating online to develop plans to investigate and prevent businesses from engaging in the illegal trading of smuggled goods online.
Alongside monitoring and inspection, the provincial market management force is also stepping up its efforts to raise awareness and encourage business owners to sign commitments not to trade or sell smuggled goods.
Ms. Pham Thi Huong, owner of a convenience store on Ly Thai To Street, Dong Kinh Ward, shared: "The store mainly sells Vietnamese-made goods. As for some goods of foreign origin, we have signed a commitment with the Market Management Force to only import and sell goods with clear import documents from suppliers. This helps the store build trust with consumers when they come to buy goods."
To effectively prevent the smuggling of goods, in addition to measures taken by law enforcement agencies, consumers also need to choose reputable businesses and avoid purchasing items without clear import documents. Simultaneously, they should proactively choose high-quality Vietnamese products, thereby contributing to the promotion of domestic production and eliminating smuggled goods from the market.
