Representatives from the consulting firm presented the content of the Chau Doc urban master plan until 2050.

At the meeting, the consulting unit presented the key contents of the project. According to the planning orientation, Chau Doc is identified as developing into a modern tourism, trade, service, and logistics city, and a leading cultural and spiritual tourism center of the Mekong Delta and the whole country; while maximizing the economic advantages of its border gate and its position as a regional transportation hub.

Chau Doc city is one of the five key development zones of An Giang province, along with Rach Gia, Phu Quoc, Long Xuyen, and Ha Tien. With its advantages as a center for spiritual tourism , ecotourism, border trade, and an important transportation hub for both road and waterway, the city has many favorable conditions to promote economic growth in the coming period.

The plan identifies four key strategies for the development of Chau Doc city until 2050, including: preserving and promoting cultural and spiritual values and historical heritage; developing border gate economy and logistics; forming commercial and service centers linked to national defense and border security; and building a green, smart, and modern city.

A representative from the Chau Doc Ward People's Committee spoke at the meeting.

In this context, tourism continues to be identified as a key economic sector, with a focus on developing the Mount Sam National Tourist Area; aiming to elevate the Mount Sam Goddess Festival into an international event, attracting tourists from countries in the Mekong sub-region. Alongside this, the development of high-end medical tourism and cultural resort tourism will contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the local tourism industry.

Representatives from the Department of Construction participated and provided feedback.

Through discussion, the members of the Appraisal Council generally agreed with the content of the plan. In addition, the delegates requested the consulting unit to continue reviewing and updating the approved higher-level plans; to further clarify the urban spatial development orientation, land use scale, regional transportation connectivity system, environmental protection solutions, landscape management of the Mount Sam area, and border gate economic development in conjunction with national defense and security requirements.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc (standing) delivers the concluding remarks at the meeting.

Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc highly appreciated the coordination of departments, localities, and consulting units in the process of developing the project.

At the same time, the Department of Construction is requested to closely coordinate with the consulting unit to fully incorporate the comments of the Appraisal Council, promptly review, supplement, and finalize the planning documents, ensuring consistency, feasibility, and conformity with the province's development orientation in the new phase.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested further clarification of the position and role of Chau Doc city in the province's new development structure after the administrative unit reorganization; and a thorough analysis of regional linkages with Long Xuyen, Tinh Bien, Ha Tien, Rach Gia, Phu Quoc, and localities in the Kingdom of Cambodia to clearly identify future growth drivers.

Regarding the tourism sector, Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ngo Cong Thuc requested the concretization of solutions for developing spiritual tourism, cultural tourism, and river tourism. In particular, he emphasized the need for thorough research into the direction of renovating and reconstructing the Ba Chua Xu Temple area on Sam Mountain, aiming for a harmonious balance between preserving cultural and historical values and the requirements of modern urban development, commensurate with the status of a particularly important spiritual and cultural destination of the province and the country.

Regarding land use planning and urban landscape architecture, the comrade suggested studying the development of high-rise residential areas in suitable locations to efficiently utilize land resources, create modern and airy architectural spaces, and meet long-term development needs. At the same time, a clear roadmap should be established for handling industrial zones and clusters after their operating licenses expire or when they are no longer compatible with urban development plans.

In addition, the consulting unit needs to continue reviewing and updating specialized plans on electricity, water supply, drainage, and wastewater treatment to ensure consistency with higher-level plans; pay attention to investing in upgrading the wastewater treatment system to meet the standards of a type II urban area; supplement solutions to prevent flooding, adapt to climate change, and enhance the effectiveness of the waterway transport system on the Hau River, Vinh Te Canal, and other inland waterways.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested the development of a list of priority investment programs and projects with high feasibility, especially in the period 2026 - 2030; focusing on projects connecting transportation infrastructure, urban beautification of the central area, tourism development, and projects adapting to climate change, creating strong momentum for the development of Chau Doc city in the coming time.
