The Women's Union of Chiềng Khoi commune, Yên Châu district, is one of the exemplary organizations in building savings models. From 2021 to the present, the Union has developed a "Recycling Waste Collection" model to raise funds and donate gifts to orphaned children, disabled children, poor women, and lonely elderly people; established 6 "Rice Jars of Compassion," collecting nearly 800kg of rice to help 84 poor members; and provided financial support for "livelihood models" for 6 poor women members. The Union also established a fund with a total of over 378 million VND, helping 44 members borrow at low interest rates to buy seedlings and livestock to develop production and increase income.
Lo Thi Ngoan, a member of the Women's Union in Me village, Chieng Khoi commune, shared: "At the beginning of 2025, my family received financial support from the Women's Union of the commune to purchase breeding goats and guidance on building pens, using green feed and agricultural by-products to raise goats. Currently, the goats are developing well, and I will try my best to take care of them so that the herd can grow, increase my income, and escape poverty."
Meanwhile, the Women's Union of Muong Te commune, Van Ho district, has launched a savings program encouraging members to save a minimum of 5,000 VND per member per month. Ms. Dinh Thi Hang, President of the Women's Union of the commune, stated: To date, the entire commune has 14 savings groups, with a total of 250 million VND managed by the branches, helping 50 disadvantaged member households borrow money for economic development. Eight "Plastic Piggy Bank" savings models are maintained, helping 30 disadvantaged women borrow over 21 million VND each. The "Rice Jar of Compassion" model has provided over 2.5 tons of rice and more than 600 bundles of firewood to disadvantaged members.
To implement savings models, the Provincial Women's Union launched the movement "Women practicing saving in accordance with Uncle Ho's teachings," directing local branches to build savings models such as "5,000 VND/member/month," "Savings rice jar," "Savings piggy bank," etc., to raise funds for activities, help each other develop economically, and visit and encourage members whenever they are sick or in trouble.
Ms. Vi Thi Binh, Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union, said: Every year, the Union collaborates with credit institutions in the province to maintain the effective operation of savings and loan groups at the grassroots level. They also coordinate the launching ceremony of the "Savings Week, Joining Hands for the Poor" campaign at all levels of the Union. They direct all levels of the Union to build union funds and savings funds for each branch, not only to help members in difficult circumstances but also to foster a spirit of solidarity within the branches.
Currently, the province maintains 1,058 savings and loan groups, with nearly 35,000 households borrowing from the Social Policy Bank and the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank, with a total outstanding loan balance of over 2,100 billion VND. During the "Savings Week, Joining Hands for the Poor" in 2025, women's associations at all levels mobilized members to deposit 316 savings accounts, totaling 3.5 billion VND. They also donated 51 savings accounts to new recruits; and 10 savings accounts to orphaned students in difficult circumstances and poor members in Hong Ngai commune, Bac Yen district.
The movement to practice thrift among women's associations at all levels in the province has spread widely, demonstrating the solidarity of members, mutual support and assistance in economic development, building warm and happy families, contributing to enhancing the position and role of women's associations, and becoming a reliable support for members.
