Residents of Chiêm Hóa commune are being supported in developing production linkages along the H'Mông cattle value chain in the area.

The project supports the development of value chain-linked production of H'Mông cattle in Chiêm Hóa and Yên Lập communes, with 60 participating households. Each household received support in the form of 120 breeding cows, with an average weight of 198 kg or more, for breeding purposes. They also received training in grass cultivation techniques, care, and feeding procedures; financial support for building barns and providing mixed feed; and a guaranteed purchase of 100% of their output. After a period of care, the herd developed well and produced 168 calves.

In Yen Lap commune, 30 households in Ban Lech and Na Vai villages received support to participate in the project, with each family receiving two H'Mong breeding cows. In July 2024, Mr. Ma Van Nam's family in Na Vai village received the support. To ensure the cows developed and reproduced well, in addition to focusing on building barns, Mr. Nam also carefully cared for them according to the instructions of the commune's veterinary officers. After more than a year, the cows gave birth to two calves, creating an additional source of income for the family.

Comrade Hoang Van Quang, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Yen Lap commune, said: "To ensure the project is implemented effectively and reaches the right beneficiaries, the commune carefully reviewed and selected eligible households, including ethnic minority households, poor households, and near-poor households. Each household received two female cows, with many households drawing lots to receive cows that had already calved or were pregnant. To date, the herd has developed very well and has given birth to an additional 44 calves."

The project aims not only to preserve genetic resources, improve the stature and development of the indigenous H'Mông cattle herd, establish concentrated production areas, and build a brand for H'Mông specialty beef, but also to help ethnic minority households participate in the value chain, increase product value, and develop stable and sustainable household economies .
