Instead of having to search through stacks of paper files, doctors can now access patient information instantly with just a few clicks on the system. Dr. Nguyen Thi Diem, Deputy Head of the Department of Emergency and Intensive Care, Toxicology and Neonatal Pathology, said that this saves time, reduces errors, and improves patient satisfaction.
“Electronic medical records offer many advantages for doctors in their work and improve the quality of medical care. For doctors, records stored in a digital environment will save effort, improve information accuracy, minimize errors, and easily check drug interactions. At the same time, it reduces printing costs, optimizes workflows, and helps hospitals operate more efficiently,” shared Dr. Diem.
Bringing his child for treatment at Quang Nam Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Mr. Huynh Phong, residing in Thang An commune, Da Nang city, observed: “The hospital's digital transformation in the examination and treatment process has saved patients a lot of time. In particular, patients now use digital signatures instead of paper signatures and cashless payments, which is very convenient and fast.”
Following the Ministry of Health 's directive to implement electronic medical records by September 30th at the latest, Quang Nam Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital has collaborated with the software provider to digitize 100% of its forms and digitally sign all records. Simultaneously, the hospital has organized training for medical staff to familiarize themselves with the process of entering, signing, and storing electronic data in accordance with regulations.
Over the past period, the hospital has equipped itself with 93 fixed computers, connecting the central control room to departments and wards via LAN; and deployed 3 high-speed internet connections to ensure stable operation. From September 15th, the electronic medical record system was officially put into operation, with data interconnected with the city's health sector and the Ministry of Health, marking a significant step forward in management, gradually eliminating paper records, and enhancing transparency and connectivity in healthcare data.
Notably, the data is stored at VNPT IDC with a centralized NAS system, meeting security requirements.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Hung Son, Director of Quang Nam Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, said: “In 2025, the hospital will simultaneously implement two software programs: HIS/PACS for diagnostic imaging and EMR for digital signatures and electronic medical records. This will help the hospital move towards comprehensive electronic medical record management, maximizing the effectiveness of smart healthcare solutions and contributing to improving the quality of patient care.”
Along with the implementation of electronic medical records, the hospital has also put into use smart medical kiosks to support people in registering for examinations, looking up information, verifying VNeID identities, and accessing services quickly. Simultaneously, it has invested in installing 32 security cameras in key locations to monitor the entire medical facility. This is an important foundation for the hospital to continue promoting digital applications in management and operation, meeting the needs of societal development.
