In recognition of the talent and contributions that player Nguyen Xuan Son has made in recent matches wearing the Vietnamese national team jersey, a fan in Quoc Oai ( Hanoi ) and his colleagues created a very vivid wooden sculpture based on the image of player Xuan Son celebrating a goal.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Bui Trong Quan (from Moc Than craft village, Quoc Oai, Hanoi) – the creator of the sculpture – said that he and his colleagues focused on the project and spent a week completing it, coinciding with the first leg of the ASEAN Cup 2024 final between the Vietnamese and Thai national teams (January 2, 2025).
The artwork is crafted from a piece of red sandalwood, a very high-quality wood from a specific part of the tree. The piece has a diameter of 50cm and a thickness of 6cm.
According to Mr. Quan, he and his colleagues meticulously studied every angle of the players' faces, thereby gaining a better understanding of their expressions and facial movements, and translating this into wood carvings.
“The most challenging aspect of a portrait is capturing the facial expression and the essence, the unique characteristics of each character, requiring the artist to infuse their own emotions into the process. This includes the eyes, the smile, the freshness, the generosity, the free-spiritedness… All of these things only appear for a fleeting moment, and we need to capture this moment to convey it and pour soul into every stroke,” shared Bui Trong Quan.
Anh Quân also shared that Vietnamese football fans are considered the most passionate football fans in the world . Football helps people feel happier, more united, and understand each other better. It even helps people become stronger and more energized to overcome difficulties in work and life.
“Above all, this is the sentiment of the Vietnamese people, always showing hospitality. We consider Xuan Son as a true Vietnamese person. This is also a mark of traditional Vietnamese craftsmanship, not only creating exquisite floral designs but also capturing the essence of the characters with great subtlety,” shared Bui Trong Quan.
Anh Quân also hopes that this sculpture will be a spiritual gift for player Nguyễn Xuân Son, encouraging him to be ready to give his all with the Vietnamese national team and win the top position at the ASEAN Cup 2024 and other tournaments in the future.
The first leg of the ASEAN Cup 2024 final between the Vietnam and Thailand national teams will take place at 8 PM on January 2nd at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho province), and will be broadcast live onFPT Television.
