Coach Hansi Flick could well leave Barcelona after this season. |
Despite having one year left on his contract, the German manager is in no hurry to make a long-term commitment. At this point, all his decisions are closely tied to the top management situation at Camp Nou.
According to Marca , Flick sees himself as a crucial link in the project initiated by Joan Laporta. The two have had initial discussions about extending his contract.
However, the agreement will only take effect from July 1st if Laporta remains as President. The chemistry between Flick and Sporting Director Deco is the foundation for stability, from professional direction to team building.
However, the atmosphere at Barcelona gradually heated up as Victor Font emerged as a formidable candidate. Speaking to RAC1 , Font affirmed his desire to keep Flick on the coaching bench, but declared he would terminate Deco's role if elected. The candidate also expressed his intention to extensively reform the management structure, aiming to eliminate what he considered a lack of transparency.
This very opposition puts Flick in a dilemma. Despite being highly regarded by both sides for his expertise, the German strategist is reportedly unwilling to continue if the current management structure is broken, even if his contract remains in effect.
The upcoming election will therefore not only determine the presidency, but also directly affect the future of the Deco-Flick duo. In the worst-case scenario, coach Flick could leave Camp Nou.
