On the afternoon of July 12th, the Vietnam U23 team finalized its 23-player roster for the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship. The tournament will take place from July 15th to 31st in Bekasi and Jakarta (Indonesia).
The five players who were dropped are Nguyen Duc Viet (Phu Dong Ninh Binh), Nguyen Hong Phuc (The Cong Viettel ), Ho Van Cuong (Song Lam Nghe An), Pham Dinh Hai (Hanoi), and Alex Bui.
Alex Bui, born in 2005, is 1.78m tall and graduated from the Bohemians Praha 1905 academy (Czech Republic). Alex passed the first tryout but ultimately failed to impress coach Kim Sang Sik.
The biggest limitation of this 20-year-old player is his ability to adapt to the weather. In addition, his technical skills and integration with teammates have not yet convinced the South Korean coach.
Coach Kim Sang Sik has dropped many experienced V-League players who didn't fit the team's overall playing style. Alex Bui was given a chance but needs more time.
Ho Van Cuong, Nguyen Duc Viet, and Nguyen Hong Phuc are all names that contributed to the U23 Southeast Asian Championship 2023 title. However, they still had to accept elimination this time.
Coach Kim Sang Sik's selection process was highly calculated, especially considering it was a crucial pre-SEA Games 2025 tournament for Vietnamese football and the South Korean coach.
According to the plan, the Vietnam U23 team will travel from Ba Ria Vung Tau to Ho Chi Minh City to catch a flight to Indonesia on July 14th. The Vietnam U23 team is in Group B along with Laos and Cambodia.
