On the morning of August 27th, Mr. Tran Manh Cuong, Director of Nam Ha Tinh Irrigation Company Limited, confirmed that Ke Go Reservoir (in Cam Due commune) is currently being discharged at a rate of 50 m³ /second. The operation to regulate water flow through the Doc Mieu spillway of the reservoir began at 7:00 AM today.
At the time of the spillway release, the water level of Ke Go Lake was at an elevation of 28.05/32 m, equivalent to a volume of 226.25/345 million m³ . The time to end the spillway release will depend on the lake water level and weather developments.
Due to the impact of Typhoon No. 5, Ha Tinh province experienced widespread heavy rainfall with amounts ranging from 100 mm to 200 mm. In Cam Xuyen district (near Ke Go Lake), the measured rainfall reached 542 mm. The heavy rain caused a rapid increase in water flow into Ke Go Lake, rising from 25.14/32 m (August 23rd) to 28.05/32 m (August 27th), exceeding the spillway threshold by 1.55 m.
Nam Ha Tinh Irrigation Company Limited has also sent a notice to downstream localities regarding the release of water to regulate water levels when the reservoir water level exceeds the spillway threshold of -26.5 m.
