Another source from Tuoi Tre Online in the book publishing industry said that she and her colleagues were all stunned when they received the news on the afternoon of May 9th.
Having worked with artist Hung Lan, she was shocked because, according to her friends, the artist was still interacting with them on Facebook on May 9th.
Farewell to the creator of the hero Hesman.
Artist Nguyen Hung Lan was born in 1956 in Saigon. He is famous for adapting the animated series Voltron - Defender of the Universe by World Events Productions into the popular comic book series Hesman, beloved by generations of Vietnamese children. The series has been published in Vietnam since 1993.
Artist Hung Lan modeled his work after the characters in the Voltron comics, changing the main character's name to Hesman.
After the first four volumes, which were inspired by Voltron, he created quite a lot more content to make it a 160-volume series.
In the most recent edition, published by Hanoibooks and Literature Publishing House in August 2019, the Hesman Warrior series was clearly labeled "Adapted by Hung Lan".
The artist also stated that he only received "symbolic" royalties. He is proud that after 26 years, the series is still loved by many readers and has reached a new generation of readers.
Besides the Hesman Warrior comic series, artist Hung Lan is also the director of Hung Lan Design, a company specializing in providing graphic design solutions.

Artist Hung Lan is wholeheartedly dedicated to Vietnamese comics.
Besides Hesman the Hero, artist Hung Lan is also the author of the following comic series: Vietnamese Superheroes, X-Men: The Mysterious Friends, The Blue Fairy, Noble Soul, Shining Examples of Youth, Thang Bom, Vietnamese Fairy Tales 1 and 2, One Thousand and One Nights...
Artist Hung Lan is not only a pioneering comic artist who has inspired and instilled a love of comics in many generations of Vietnamese readers, but he also created the HL Comic and HL Thu Phap fonts, which are Unicode-compatible, in 2003. While initially intended for comics, they were later widely used in advertising.
Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duong, co-author of the comic book Long Than Tuong and founder of the Comicola comic book brand, shared with Tuoi Tre Online:
"Author Hung Lan is both an idol and a role model for comic book creators like us to follow."
When I was 7 or 8 years old, I would often ask my parents for money so I could go to the nearest bookstore every week to buy the latest Hesman comic book, and then meticulously redraw the pages with the coolest robot characters.
Stepping into the world of comics, I had the opportunity to meet him and hear him recount stories from his early days in the profession. His dedication, focus, and speed of work are qualities that our generation, despite the assistance of modern machinery and technology, can never match.
When my friend Thanh Phong and I launched the Long Than Tuong project, Uncle Hung Lan was the first person we thought of to ask for an introduction. He helped us very enthusiastically and was a pillar of support that enabled us to launch our first work.
Later, as the company grew, I shared my desire to digitize the Hesman comics and produce spin-off versions to nurture my love for the series, and he fully supported me and was incredibly enthusiastic."
