This morning, September 5, in the joyful atmosphere of the opening ceremony of the whole country, teachers and students of Xa Dan Secondary School ( Hanoi ) started the new school year. Unlike other schools, this is a specialized school in Hanoi, training both normal students and deaf and disadvantaged students with 3 levels of preschool, primary and secondary school.

With the inter-level teaching model, the school currently organizes teaching for both normal students (of which hearing-impaired students account for 60%).
With this mix, deaf students receive better care, and attention from their friends helps them integrate better. Meanwhile, normal students can also help deaf students, thereby cultivating their compassion and tolerance.

From early morning, hundreds of students, teachers and parents of the school were present to prepare for the opening ceremony. At exactly 8 o'clock, the school drum sounded, signaling the official start of the opening ceremony. In the front yard, students of all grades were sitting in neat rows. They talked to each other with hand gestures, eyes and smiles.

Just a few minutes later, the song "Marching Song" began to play. The normal students began to sing. The other half, the "special" students, also looked up at the red flag with a yellow star fluttering, and their hands also "drawn symbols" to sing the National Anthem in their own way.

Looking at the students with their arms moving up and down in rhythm with the music, Mr. Pham Van Hoan, the school's principal, was moved to share: "Sign language is the characteristic of Xa Dan school. When singing the national anthem, the students will feel more sociable with other normal students and have a more complete joy on the first day of school."

According to Mr. Hoan, today is a great day for the school's staff, teachers, employees and students. Although teachers and students are working and studying in an environment with limited facilities, with the dedication of teachers and the diligence and academic excellence of students, the school is determined to strive for many good results in the 2024-2025 school year.

According to teachers, teaching deaf students to sing the national anthem in sign language is as difficult as teaching them to dance, because the students’ movements must be synchronized. In order to sing it officially, the school had to train the students for many weeks.

"The hearing impaired students cannot use loudspeakers to direct the marching procession or teach singing like normal students. When using sign language, the students do not pay attention or look at us, so they do not understand. Therefore, teachers have to go to each student and guide them one by one," said Ms. Nguyen Thu Hien, Secretary of the school's Youth Union.
According to Ms. Hien, in the new school year, in addition to continuing to effectively organize and implement innovative tasks and solutions in education for students with disabilities, the school will also promote extracurricular activities, focus on building a safe, healthy, and friendly educational environment; focus on career guidance for students. In addition, we will also establish a Sign Language Club so that teachers and students have an official source of data.
"We believe that for children with disabilities, the opening ceremony is a new beginning that brings confidence, a way to inspire them throughout their schooling process. Here, we will carry out the mission of being a father and mother so that our children can study and develop in the best way possible," Ms. Hien emotionally shared.
