This morning, September 5th, amidst the joyful atmosphere of the nationwide opening ceremony, teachers and students of Xa Dan Primary and Secondary School ( Hanoi ) held their opening ceremony for the new school year. Unlike other schools, this is a specialized school in Hanoi, providing education for both normal and hearing-impaired/disadvantaged students across three levels: preschool, primary, and secondary.

Therefore, the opening ceremony here was also held in a special way. Teachers and students used hand gestures to sing the national anthem and read the letter from General Secretary and President To Lam to the education sector on the occasion of the new school year 2024-2025.

With its integrated teaching model, the school currently provides education for both regular and hearing-impaired students (of which hearing-impaired students account for 60%).
With this mix, hearing-impaired students receive better care and attention from their peers, helping them integrate better. Meanwhile, hearing-impaired students can also help hearing-impaired students, thereby fostering compassion and tolerance in them.

From early morning, hundreds of students, teachers, and parents of the school were present to prepare for the opening ceremony. At exactly 8 o'clock, the school bell rang, signaling the official start of the opening ceremony. In the front yard, students from all grades sat in neat rows. They communicated with each other through hand gestures, eye contact, and smiles.

Just a few minutes later, the "Marching Song" began to play. The regular students started singing. The other half, the "special" students, also looked up at the fluttering red flag with a yellow star, their hands making gestures to sing the national anthem in their own way.

Watching the students raise and lower their arms in perfect rhythm with the music, Mr. Pham Van Hoan, the school principal, emotionally shared: "Body language is the unique characteristic of Xa Dan school. Singing the national anthem will help the students feel more integrated with their peers and experience a more complete joy on the first day of school."

According to Mr. Hoan, today is a great day of joy for the entire staff, teachers, and students of the school. Although teachers and students are working and studying in an environment with limited facilities, with the dedication of the teachers and the diligence and striving spirit of the students, the school is determined to achieve many good results in the 2024-2025 school year.

According to the teachers, teaching deaf students to sing the national anthem collectively using sign language is as difficult as teaching them to dance, because it requires their movements to be synchronized. To be able to sing it officially, the school had to train them for many weeks.

"Because the hearing-impaired students are difficult to teach through loudspeakers like we would with hearing-impaired students, we can't use loudspeakers. And they don't pay attention or look at us, so they don't understand. Therefore, teachers have to go to each student individually to guide them," shared Ms. Nguyen Thu Hien, Secretary of the school's Youth Union.
According to Ms. Hien, in the new school year, in addition to continuing to effectively implement innovative educational tasks and solutions for students with disabilities, the school will also promote extracurricular activities, focusing on building a safe, healthy, and friendly educational environment; and focusing on career guidance for the students. Furthermore, we will also establish a Sign Language Club to provide teachers and students with a reliable source of information.
"We believe that for children with disabilities, the opening ceremony is a new beginning that brings confidence and inspires them throughout their time at school. Here, we will fulfill our mission as parents so that the children can learn and develop in the best way possible," Ms. Hien shared emotionally.
