On the afternoon of December 12th, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee announced its approval of the adjustment to the Tet holiday schedule for students, as proposed by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
Specifically, students will have an 11-day Lunar New Year holiday from January 23rd to February 2nd, 2025 (i.e., from the 24th day of the 12th lunar month to the 5th day of the 1st lunar month).

Previously, the Lunar New Year holiday schedule for students in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025 was outlined in the 2024-2025 school year plan, starting in early September. Students will have a 9-day holiday, from January 25th to February 2nd, 2025 (26th day of the 12th lunar month to the 5th day of the 1st lunar month).
However, many parents believe that such a short holiday is inconvenient for families who want to visit relatives far away or go on vacation . In previous years, the Tet holiday for students in Ho Chi Minh City usually lasted from 12-16 days.
At the regular socio-economic press conference of Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of December 5th, Ms. Nguyen Minh Bach Lan, Deputy Chief of the Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, pointed out the difficulty in scheduling Tet holiday breaks for students, as it ensures a full 35 weeks of actual schooling in the year, as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training . The new school year starts on September 5th and ends before May 31st, plus other holidays. Therefore, the 9-day Tet holiday is very close to the school year timeframe.
However, in response to parents' wishes, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has based its proposal to adjust the Tet holiday schedule on the actual situation and the plans of the schools.
