Learning history from the evidence of war.

Việt NamViệt Nam16/04/2025

Organizing "history study tours" right in the local area and integrating them into the history curriculum to inspire students, youth union members, and young people with the evidence of war is a way to honor the past and strongly rekindle patriotism in today's young people.

The glorious historical tradition and the heroic struggles of generations of heroes still burn brightly in those historical sites.

The effect of evoking gratitude.

In its youth-oriented activities, the Bac Lieu Provincial Youth Union has organized numerous "history study trips" to provide opportunities for its members and young people to witness firsthand the historical relics of the war right in their homeland. Through these trips, by interacting with valuable historical artifacts and hearing stories from historical witnesses, the young people have gained a deeper understanding of the heroic and resilient struggle of previous generations, which has given us a peaceful life today. Expanding the scope to include all students, regardless of age, to at least once visit these places that deserve to be called treasure troves of historical evidence of war is something that schools should consider.

The reality is that young people are very enthusiastic about visiting revolutionary war relics. Many young people, after leaving the cinema, expressed their wish to their teachers and parents: "I want to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels." And the Cu Chi Tunnels historical site in Ho Chi Minh City has been packed with visitors since the film "The Tunnels - The Sun in the Darkness" by director Bui Thac Chuyen was released, thanks to the film's powerful impact!

During a Literature class at Bac Lieu University, while watching "Sac Forest Special Forces"—a short film created using AI by a group of young history enthusiasts—many students inquired about the location of Sac Forest, expressing a desire to visit the site to fully experience the historical monument and light incense for the brave martyrs who fought with mines under the motto "fight to the death for the Fatherland."

These heroic and moving war stories will inspire children to visit historical sites of the revolutionary war and are more than capable of evoking gratitude in those who are enjoying the values of peace .

Motivation for striving

Conveniently located next to the Monument of the Large Prison (Ward 3, Bac Lieu City), the Youth Union of Vo Thi Sau Secondary School regularly organizes traditional activities there. By clearly explaining to students that this was once a prison built by the French colonialists and used by the Saigon government to imprison revolutionary fighters to suppress the struggle of the army and people of Bac Lieu, the school hopes that this thorough understanding and gratitude will motivate the students to study hard and strive to be worthy of those sacrifices.

In Bac Lieu, history study trips have taken many young people to historical sites associated with significant events in the province, such as: Vinh Duc Pagoda (Cach Mang Street, Ward 1, Bac Lieu City), the place where the first Party flag was hoisted (Tran Phu Street, in front of Vincom Supermarket), the place where the people seized power (Tran Phu Street, opposite the Bac Lieu City People's Committee), and the Great Prison Monument... Based on the positive impact of these trips, it is suggested that schools should innovate and make History and Local Education lessons more exciting by taking students to these places. "Seeing is believing," and direct experience and understanding of war relics will engrave valuable historical lessons in students, helping them remember them deeply and impressively.

Traditional revolutionary education for students, youth union members, and young people can be achieved by integrating direct visits to historical sites, listening to historical figures recount and present stories about historical events associated with these sites. This will open up pages of history for them, bringing to life the most heroic moments of the nation right in their homeland.

By experiencing the fervent spirit of the war years through historical relics preserving glorious traditions, you will realize your role and responsibility in contributing to continuing the traditions of your ancestors and writing the next chapter of peacetime with bright colors.
