BSO SURPRISED ABOUT BEING A STUDENT IN THE FIELD OF ART
Sharing in the program, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Vice Principal of Duy Tan University, said that a statistic on the situation of students having jobs 12 months after graduation was announced by the Ministry of Education and Training last year. Last year, art was one of the training fields with the highest rate of students finding jobs in the last 4 years. “This number may be surprising because art is not among the majors with the most registered students. But in contrast to the industries leading in TS registration, the arts have a higher employment rate. For example, in 2020 this rate in the field of arts is up to 97% - meaning that for every 10 students who graduate after 1 year, almost all 10 of them have jobs," Dr. Hai added.
Explaining this phenomenon, Dr. Hai said that among the 24 training fields corresponding to 377 majors, art is the field with a relatively smaller number of students registered to study than other majors, ranking only 13th out of 24 fields. area. In 2023, the rate of students admitted to university accounts for only 1,36% of the total number of students admitted to university, equivalent to about 8.000 students. In 2022, the number of students will be slightly higher but still less than 9.000 people. Therefore, the level of competition among students after graduation is not high, leading to a high student employment rate.
Besides, Dr. Hai believes that one reason may be because this field requires learners to have certain talents. “In addition, part of the reason may be the impact of the 4.0 industrial revolution. In a world where technology is developing rapidly, the artistic, humanistic, psychological aspects... are paid more attention than ever", Vice Principal of Duy Tan University added.
Regarding the current status of training and employment in the field of construction architecture, Dr. Hai said that by 2023 this field will have 18.660 students studying. The actual requirement of the labor market for trained human resources needs to reach 75% but this rate is currently only at 65%. “Another important point about employment for architecture students is the ability to create their own jobs. A statistic shows that 20% of architecture students can create their own jobs, 58% work at non-national enterprises, only 8% work for the state," Dr. Hai added. .
Master Pham Thi Hong Lien, advisor to the Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, said that the school is currently training a number of majors following new trends, integrating technology in specific training fields. . It can be said that trending industries create more opportunities for learners.
NDO SPECIFIC SECTORS NEED SPECIFIC INPUT?
In response to this question, school representatives said it depends on the admission method for each school.
At Viet Duc University, Associate Professor-Dr. Pham Thanh Duong, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, said that this year the school has 5 admission methods for majors. As for architecture, the school does not require students to take the drawing exam at the school. But in the method of considering scores for the high school graduation exam, doctors can use drawing scores taken from other schools to consider admission according to the school's prescribed combination.
Talking more about the use of the TestAS test to enroll in architecture, Associate Professor Duong said that doctors need to take the test for students to enroll in engineering majors. In particular, the test consists of two parts: basic knowledge and specialized knowledge, not testing drawing aptitude. In the PhD specialized exam, knowledge of mathematics, physics and related subjects will be tested. In particular, math and physics are mandatory conditions to study this field well. At the same time, aesthetic sense, creativity, and skillful hands are also plus points.
“The school does not require students to take a drawing entrance exam, but students will practice this skill right in the first year. After 4 years, learners will be able to draw by hand and especially be able to use computer drawing technology," Associate Professor Duong added.
Master Pham Thi Hong Lien also said that Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology has different options for students to enroll in these majors. Depending on the admission method, PhDs can choose a combination that contains aptitude subjects or not. If admission is based on aptitude scores, students can take the drawing exam at school or consider drawing scores from other schools.
“For admitted students who do not use drawing, even the first year training program has subjects that provide drawing knowledge and skills. When entering the major, students continue to practice these skills to meet the requirements before graduating," Master Lien added.
For more information, Dr. Vo Thanh Hai said that the art field has 4 groups with more than 30 branches, not all branches test drawing talent right when considering admission. For example, Duy Tan University organizes an art drawing exam or uses test scores for this subject organized by other universities to consider admission to the architecture major. Meanwhile, the graphic design school does not consider gifted subjects.
But according to Dr. Hai, these majors still require necessary elements from learners. For example, in architecture, math and physics are the foundation along with drawing talent. "If students are not strong in math and physics, students will have difficulty in the learning process, and may not even meet the requirements to graduate," Vice Principal of Duy Tan University acknowledged.
Technology has a supporting role
When choosing art-oriented majors, don't worry. Technology only supports making a picture, program, or product more perfect, but it all still depends on people. Artificial intelligence (AI) will not be able to have emotions like humans to create emotional products. Machines cannot replace humans no matter how much technology develops.

As technology develops, art-related industries develop accordingly
The movement of society is increasingly associated with technological development. In the field of art, the more technology develops, the more this industry develops. According to statistics of 2023, the art industry accounts for a small percentage but is still among the group many students choose. Many schools admit students to this major with different benchmark scores. Some schools get 14 - 15 points, but some schools like Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture get 27 - 28 points some years. As for Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance, the standard score for all majors ranges from 19 to 21. This is a fairly high score among the school's training majors, showing the interest of learners in this field. .

Learners need to think and perceive beauty
The use of technology can provide good support for all jobs, including the fields of art, design and architecture. If you do not have the talent to draw, you will certainly encounter certain barriers. But drawing talent can still be trained. The most necessary qualities of people studying this field are beauty perception and open thinking. At Nguyen Tat Thanh University, students will receive professional training, practice, and experience to apply in real work.
