Students have the highest employment rate of over 97%
Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Vice Principal of Duy Tan University, said that according to the training industry regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, art currently has 4 major groups: fine arts includes 6 majors, performing arts includes 21 majors, 3 branches of audio-visual arts, 4 branches of applied arts. Among them, the 4 majors in the field of applied arts that are studied the most by candidates today include: industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, theater and film art design.
In 2023, the Ministry of Education and Training announced a statistic on the situation of students finding jobs after graduating 12 months in the period from 2018-2021. Accordingly, some fields lead the rate of students having jobs such as: engineering; art; Agriculture, forestry and fisheries; environment and environmental protection... In 4 years, the rate of students having jobs in the arts field ranged from 93,5-97,1%. Calculated in about 4 years, art and engineering are the two fields that some years reach the highest rate at more than 2%.
In response to this data, Dr. Hai commented: "The number may be surprising because art is not in the group of majors with the most students registering to study. But in contrast to the industries that lead applicants, the arts have a higher employment rate. For example, in 2020 this rate in the field of arts reached 97% - meaning that for every 10 students graduating after 1 year, almost all 10 of them have jobs."
3 reasons
Explaining this phenomenon, Dr. Hai said that, among the 24 training fields corresponding to 377 majors, art is the field with relatively fewer registered candidates than other majors, ranking only 13th among 24 fields. In 2023, the rate of admitted candidates accounts for only 1,36% of the total candidates admitted to university, equivalent to about 8.000 students. Of the more than 1 million students taking the high school graduation exam, only about 8.000 students attend university in the field of arts. In 2022, the number of students admitted to this field is slightly higher but still less than 9.000 people.
"When the number of students is low, the level of competition among graduate students is not high, leading to a high rate of student employment," Mr. Hai said.
Besides, Dr. Hai said that one reason may be because this field requires learners to have certain talents. For example, in the high school program, drawing is not a main subject, but to be considered for architecture major, candidates need to take a drawing exam.
“In addition, part of the reason may be the impact of the 4.0 industrial revolution. In a world where technology is developing rapidly, the artistic, humanistic, psychological aspects... of people are paid more attention than ever", Vice Principal of Duy Tan University added.
