Duc Trong Farmers' Association: Looking back at an effective term of operation

After 5 years of implementing the Resolution of the 11th Congress of the Duc Trong District Farmers' Association, term 2018-2023, the officials and members of the Duc Trong District Farmers' Association have continuously built and developed a strong organization in terms of politics , ideology and organization; affirming the position, role and responsibility of the peasant class in the cause of agricultural and rural development.

Delegates visited models and products displayed at the exhibition "Aspiration to reach out to the ocean" held on the sidelines of the 12th Congress of Duc Trong District Farmers' Association.

During the past term, the Farmers' Association at all levels in the district has promoted the spirit of solidarity, strongly innovated the content and methods of operation, directed activities towards the grassroots and residential areas according to the motto "Where there are farmers, there is a Farmers' Association"; cared for the lives, protected the legitimate rights and interests of farmers' members; actively participated in Party building, government building and the great national unity bloc. The Association and its cadres and members have effectively promoted their central and core roles in patriotic emulation movements and the cause of new rural construction. They have done a good job of propagating and disseminating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws to farmers; propagating and mobilizing farmers to agree to effectively implement local socio -economic development programs and plans. The associations at all levels have organized many consulting, service, vocational training activities, supporting farmers in developing production and business, mobilizing and motivating farmers to compete in production and labor, striving to become rich legitimately right on their homeland.

Emulation movements launched by the Association, especially the Movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, solidarity to help each other get rich legitimately and sustainably reduce poverty" have been widely implemented.

If the 2018 evaluation results had 7,225 households achieving the title of good farmers and businessmen, then up to now, there are 9,260 households achieving this title, an increase of 2,035 households. Officials and members of the farmer association united, helping with 690 million VND, 4,000 working days; 19,100 kg of rice, 5,000 seedlings, and providing production experience guidance to poor farmer members to develop production and escape poverty sustainably.

The quality and effectiveness of the movement are increasingly improved, many households have appeared with large production scale, with business capital of tens of billions of VND, attracting thousands of workers, many households have income of billions of VND/year, contributing to increasing income, solving jobs for rural workers. A typical example is the household of Mr. Nguyen Van Doan - Director of Nam Son Cooperative, Lien Nghia town, linked with about 1,000 local farming households, annually investing in production of over 3,000 hectares, solving jobs for 400 workers with an average income of over 6 million VND/person/month. Or like the household of Mr. Vo Tien Huy - Tien Huy Cooperative, Hiep An commune, linked with 100 farmers to produce 30 hectares of greenhouses, products are pre-processed, packaged, and supplied to domestic supermarkets; Mr. Huynh Tan Son's household - Hoa Mat Troi Company cooperates with farmers in the region to produce 60 hectares of cut dancing orchids for export to Japan and Europe...

Through the movement, farmers have effectively implemented the restructuring program of the agricultural sector, restructuring key crops and livestock with advantages such as vegetables, flowers, coffee, macadamia, dairy cattle farming, high-yield beef cattle, pig farming... in a multi-industry, sustainable and gradually modern direction. Up to now, 9 products have been recognized as OCOP products. Helping farmers boldly shift the structure of crops and livestock, develop agricultural production towards high-tech agriculture, smart agriculture, organic agriculture, forming fairly large-scale production areas; participating in building and developing collective economy, cooperatives, implementing production linkages according to value chains... contributing to promoting the agricultural sector to maintain a fairly high growth rate. Currently, the average production value of crops reaches 366.57 million VND/ha.

The movement “Farmers compete to build new rural areas” has been regularly and continuously deployed by the Farmers’ Association at all levels, contributing to mobilizing resources to effectively implement the National Target Program on building new rural areas in the locality. Up to now, 14/14 communes have maintained the new rural criteria, of which 7 communes have met the advanced new rural standards.

Along with that, the work of building, consolidating and developing the Association has had positive changes; the quality of the Association's staff at all levels has been constantly improved. The Associations at all levels have tried to grasp the difficulties, thoughts and legitimate aspirations of farmers and proposed to the Party Committee and local authorities solutions, remove difficulties, promptly resolve the legitimate and legal rights and interests of farmers, contributing to strengthening the trust of farmers in the Party and the State, thereby, the position of the Farmers' Association in the local political system has been increasingly enhanced.
