Visiting Luong Van Tri ward (formerly Quang Lac commune) these days, it's not difficult to spot trucks carrying peach blossom trees that were used for Tet (Lunar New Year) back to their gardens.
According to Mr. Hoang Van Toan, from Quang Hong village, Luong Van Tri ward, who has many years of experience in peach tree cultivation: "My family has a peach orchard with over 300 trees. Every year, we sell both branches and whole trees for customers to display during Tet (Lunar New Year). As usual, after Tet, we take care of the peach trees that customers 'entrust' to us. Unlike previous years, this year the weather is warmer, so the peach trees that people display during Tet finished blooming early and quickly sprouted new leaves. Instead of from the 15th day of the first lunar month as in previous years, this year, customers have been sending their peach trees to the garden for care since the 7th day of Tet. To date, my family has taken care of about 10 peach trees from customers. With a care cost of 500,000 to 1,000,000 VND per tree per year, the garden will care for, prune branches, and reshape the ornamental peach trees to 'revive' them."
Similar to Mr. Toan's family, peach tree growers in Luong Van Tri ward have allocated separate plots of land to cultivate and care for the peach trees "entrusted" to them by customers. The atmosphere of labor and production at these peach tree growers is bustling and urgent.
Along with peach growers in Luong Van Tri ward, ornamental peach tree growers in Vu Le commune are also busy with the new peach season.
Mr. Nguyen Van Quynh, from Hong Phong 1 village, Vu Le commune, said: "This year, my family rented out nearly 300 dwarf peach trees, mainly to customers in Thai Nguyen province and Hanoi city... Besides renting, for the past 5-6 years, my family has also been taking care of the peach trees that customers send us. From the 5th day of the first lunar month until now, we have received more than 20 peach trees from customers to take to the garden for care. The cost of care ranges from 1 to 3 million VND per tree per year."
According to peach tree growers in the communes and wards of the province, depending on the damage to the root system, each peach tree will require different care after the Lunar New Year. Bringing a withered peach tree back to life requires a lot of effort and meticulous care.
Mr. Luong Van Tuyen, Director of Minh Hoa Ornamental Peach Cooperative in Tuan Son commune, said: The cooperative has 25 members and is currently caring for 16 hectares of ornamental peach trees. Every year, cooperative members rent out and take care of the peach trees after the Lunar New Year. On average, each cooperative member rents out about 30 trees per year at prices ranging from 3 to 8 million VND depending on the tree; they also receive about 10 to 20 ornamental peach trees on consignment per year with an average care cost of 2 million VND per tree per year. Immediately after the trees are transported, cooperative members prune them, removing withered and weak branches, leaving only the main branches so the tree can concentrate nutrients. The trees are placed in a cool, airy place, away from direct sunlight, and watered to maintain moisture. After a few days, they are replanted. For the 2026 Lunar New Year peach season, the cooperative estimates total revenue of approximately 3 billion VND.
According to statistics, the province currently has approximately 600 hectares of peach orchards. To ensure that peach growers understand the technical process of planting and caring for ornamental peach trees, provincial specialized agencies, in coordination with local authorities, organize training courses for the people; and issue technical procedures for planting and caring for ornamental peach trees... The province currently has several cooperatives growing ornamental peach trees, such as: Vu Son Peach Blossom Cooperative (Vu Le commune); Ban Cao Peach Blossom Cooperative (Luong Van Tri ward)... Thanks to the development of peach cultivation, many households in the province earn over 100 million VND per year.
Proactive care and technical support from experts not only improve the quality of ornamental peach trees but also contribute to maintaining livelihoods and providing a stable source of income for local people.
