After the merger, Hon Dat commune currently has 5,868 hectares of forest managed by forest owners including: An Giang Forest Management Board Region 1, MDF Wood Joint Stock Company VRG Kien Giang and Hon Dat Forestry Enterprise. Right from the beginning of the 2025 dry season, forest owners have proactively implemented many measures to prevent and fight forest fires; focused on arranging dozens of guard posts in the forest area, investing in well-prepared forest fire prevention and fighting equipment, and developing response plans in case of fire.

VRG Kien Giang MDF Wood Joint Stock Company has more than 1,080 hectares of production forest. The production forest areas are close together, so the risk of fire is higher than the coastal protection forest areas. The thick and abundant layer of ground cover is adjacent to the rice fields of the people. The habit of burning fields, going into the forest to catch bees and fish is the cause of many forest fires.

With the spirit of proactiveness and prevention as the main focus, VRG Kien Giang MDF Wood Joint Stock Company is fully prepared with fire prevention and fighting equipment, including 17 fire extinguishers and 6,200m of rope. The company also proactively dredged canals and ditches leading water into the forest, built water storage dykes, regularly pumped water into the canals; cleaned firebreaks to limit the spread of fire to other areas; assigned patrol teams to check forest fire prevention and fighting daily.

Mr. Bui Thanh Liem - Representative of Forest Protection Department Region 5 said that, based on the approved forest fire prevention and control plan, the forest rangers proactively coordinated with local authorities to urge and remind forest owners to strictly implement forest fire prevention and control work in the managed area. Forest owners were required to organize and strengthen forest fire prevention and control teams; assign forces to set up stations at camps; patrol and inspect key forest fire areas, ensuring readiness to fight fires.

Forest rangers coordinate with localities and forest owners to promote propaganda and dissemination of legal knowledge on forest fire prevention and fighting to households living along forests, production, business, processing, exploitation and transportation establishments of forest products, etc. At the same time, raise awareness, organize implementation and strictly comply with legal regulations; promptly prevent illegal logging, digging and encroachment of forest land, etc.

According to the assessment of the hydrometeorological agency, in the dry season of 2025 - 2026, the drought and salinity intrusion situation will be at or below the average of many years. After the rainy season ends, there will still be many days of unseasonal rain in the first months of the dry season of 2025 - 2026. From December 2025 to February 2026, the total rainfall in the province will generally be at the average of many years.

To proactively respond to situations at risk of forest fires in the upcoming dry season in the commune, Secretary of the Hon Dat Commune Party Committee Duong Minh Tam requested that forest owners proactively review the entire forest land area under their management; clearly identify the boundaries under their management, strengthen fire prevention and fighting teams and develop a forest fire prevention and fighting plan for 2026; proactively implement forest protection measures according to the "4 on-site" motto. At the same time, mobilize forces and units in the area to coordinate in forest fire prevention and fighting and fight against deforestation, forest encroachment, forest destruction and illegal forest exploitation. Resolutely handle strictly those who violate regulations on forest management, protection and forest fire prevention and fighting. Thereby, strengthen patrolling, inspection and strict control of people entering and exiting forest areas at high risk of fire. At the same time, propagate and disseminate knowledge about forest fire prevention and fighting to people living near forest areas.
