Honda has officially introduced the N-One e:2025, its first electric kei car, aiming to compete with the Nissan Sakura , currently the best-selling electric car in Japan, and consolidate its position in a segment that accounts for 40% of new cars in the domestic market.

Specifically, the new Honda N-One e: 2025 electric car will be officially sold in the Japanese domestic market from September 12, 2025 with a starting price of 2.7 million yen (equivalent to about 483 million VND).

This is Honda's second electric kei car, following the N-Van e which was launched last year, but unlike the commercial van, the N-One e is designed primarily for family and personal use.

Based on the retro-styled petrol-powered Honda N-One, the electric version is identified by its more boxy appearance, angular front end and distinctive rear design.

The car uses a 29.6 kWh battery pack placed under the floor, similar to the N-Van e, for a range of 295 km according to WLTP standards. This figure surpasses its rival Nissan Sakura with a 20 kWh battery and a range of 180 km, and is close to higher-segment electric cars such as the Hyundai Inster or Renault 5 E-Tech with a small battery.

The car supports 6 kW AC charging, which takes about 4.5 hours to fully charge, and 50 kW DC fast charging, which can charge the battery to 80% in about 30 minutes. The electric motor power is limited to 64 horsepower under Japanese kei car regulations, but it is still enough to meet daily travel needs.

Honda says the biggest challenge in developing the N-One e was keeping the interior as comfortable as possible. Thanks to the battery pack being slim and flat under the floor, legroom for passengers is still guaranteed.

In addition, the driving position of the Honda N-One e: mini electric car has also been improved with the steering wheel moved 37 mm closer to the driver than the petrol engine version. Furthermore, the N-One e also supports two-way charging, with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) features.

The power supply can provide up to 1.5 kW of power to external devices or as a backup power source for the home. V2H also allows for cost savings by charging at night when prices are low and using the battery power during the day.

In Japan, the Honda N-One e: will face direct competition from the Nissan Sakura and also a new electric kei car from BYD, the first electric kei car from a manufacturer outside Japan, showing BYD's ambition to expand its electric vehicle market share. Toyota and many others are also preparing to enter this segment.

With its competitive price, real-world driving range, and advanced features, Honda hopes the N-One e will become a new benchmark in the mini-electric vehicle segment in Japan, while also paving the way for the company's broader electrification strategy globally.
