Hong Duyen is like a "gold mine"

With this music project, she reunites with musician and music producer Duong Cam since the success of their album "Duyen" in 2017. "Duyen" includes 9 songs: Xuan Thi, Cau Duyen, Tim Em Trong Chieu Hoi Lim, Qua Cau Gio Bay, Ky Niem Nao Buon, Nang Chieu Ruc Ro, Trang Gia, Hue Xua, and Mua Tren Pho Hue. Among them, "Cau Duyen" is a new composition that Duong Cam wrote specifically for the female singer. After its independent music video was released at the end of February 2024, "Cau Duyen" received positive feedback from a large number of music lovers.

With Du Yen , Hong Duyen, and Duong Cam, they diligently reimagined classic songs associated with People's Artist Thu Hien, renowned singers Tuan Ngoc and Ngoc Son… Duong Cam dared to challenge himself by entrusting the "mission" of reimagining these familiar songs to So Duy Anh, Nguyen Duc Minh Duong, Sy Thang, and San Trinh – young musicians in the Background band. Musicians Nguyen Minh Tu and Duong Cam also participated in the arrangement and orchestration.

The arrangements have given the songs a distinctly contemporary feel by being played on violin, cello, flute, guitar, etc. This helps the 8 familiar songs "break free" from their old sounds, taking on a new look.

For Duong Cam, Hong Duyen is like a "gold mine" that needs to be exploited.

According to Duong Cam, Hong Duyen is a female singer with a unique voice—soft, flexible, yet very powerful and with refined enunciation. With a solid foundation in vocal technique, Hong Duyen seems to play with melodies, creating a pleasant feeling for listeners while still showcasing resonant, high, and bright notes.

Interestingly, no one thought Hong Duyen would sing Pham Duyen's music if it weren't for Duong Cam's persuasion. In this project, Hong Duyen performed "Old Moon" and "Brilliant Afternoon Sun" by composer Pham Duyen. Entrusting a female singer with Pham Duyen's music demonstrates Duong Cam's keen insight and broad vision. And with the belief that Hong Duyen was a "gold mine" to be exploited in every way, Duong Cam didn't take any risks in his decision to pursue this musical idea.

Reportedly, the project "Du Yen" took nearly a year from start to finish. The entire team had to change filming locations several times because Hong Duyen wanted a setting where nature and people harmonized, a place of tranquility and peace. Not only focusing on her singing, Hong Duyen also sought a fresh approach to her performance. After much deliberation, she decided to film a live music session with a background band.

Hong Duyen was born in 1992 in Thai Binh province . In 2015, she won the runner-up prize in the folk music category of the Sao Mai singing competition. Later, in 2017, she collaborated with musician Duong Cam to release her first album, titled "Duyen." Hong Duyen is known as a prominent singer of contemporary folk music, famous for many songs such as: "Gió đánh đò đưa," "Duyen," "Còn duyên," "Em tôi," "Cầu duyên," etc.

She graduated in Vocal Music from the Military University of Culture and Arts and is currently working at the Military Song and Dance Theatre. After many years of dedication, she currently holds the rank of Captain and has won numerous Gold Medals for the theatre's contributions to military culture and arts.
