The musical 'Chi Pheo's Dream' is successful thanks to its humanity and aesthetic elements.

In 90 minutes, the musical tells the story of Chi Pheo's fierce struggle with the tragedy of fate. The work honors the value of sincere human love despite being crushed by fate.

After 3 plays: "Miss Sao," "The Sculptor," "Nguyen Trai" - the first Vietnamese musicals in Western style, it can be said that Vietnamese Broadway musicals have enough appeal to the audience with the representative being "Chi Pheo's Dream."

From a stage production staged to participate in the National Music and Dance Festival in 2024, because he did not want his brainchild to be "stored away" like the fate of many other plays, musician Duong Cam upgraded all stages of production organization to bring the work to the audience.

Director of the Department of Performing Arts Nguyen Xuan Bac said the musical is very good, has literary and artistic value, and is highly aesthetic.

“I think Duong Cam and his crew have invested a lot in their product and received a lot of acceptance from the audience, creating life for a musical work. This is also an attractive and typical product in the context of us promoting the cultural industry,” People's Artist Xuan Bac expressed.

Before “Chi Pheo’s Dream,” Duong Cam had participated in musical production with the play “This Morning I Read the Newspaper” - a musical that made a splash at the Thang Long Music and Dance Theater, which was a stepping stone for Duong Cam to boldly invest in this genre.

“When I make musicals, I am sure that this will be a genre that is attractive enough to the audience. Because after many live shows, concerts, and lounge music nights entering a saturated phase, musicals will be one of the 'delicious dishes' that the audience will enjoy,” musician Duong Cam shared.

He expressed his gratitude to writer Nam Cao for leaving behind a typical literary work. The musician also respected his collaborators and was grateful to the audience for loving and nurturing the country's musical art.

Sharing with reporters of VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper, Duong Cam expressed his hope that the play “Chi Pheo’s Dream” will become a product of Vietnamese cultural tourism , appearing as a “delicious dish” for international tourists coming to Vietnam. He believes this is a product that is attractive enough in the cultural industry and can be “culturally exported.”

On his journey to conquer musicals, Duong Cam is not alone. Like the pull of a magnet, when Duong Cam came to musicals, he immediately met a team full of "geniuses", namely screenwriter Dinh Tien Dung, director Phung Tien Minh, art director Huynh Tan Minh... and especially his "wife" Nguyen Thu Quynh, Director of Duong Cam Art and Entertainment Development Company (DuongCam Art).

Not only is Nguyen Thu Quynh the person who understands what Duong Cam wants, she also plays the role of Production and Performance Organizer, so that the musical "Chi Pheo's Dream" can continuously serve the audience at Ho Guom Theater.

Sharing after watching the performance on the evening of November 16, divo Tung Duong affirmed that Duong Cam had "made a name for himself" with the musical "Chi Pheo's Dream."

“This is a musical with a very distinct Broadway color, good music handling, impressive script and leaving many emotions for the audience. Besides a vibrant music market, Duong Cam's musical is a delicious, unique, attractive and creative dish, which shows that Duong Cam is on the right track and leading the enjoyment trend of the mass audience,” Tung Duong commented./.
