On the morning of November 17, Quang Tri General Hospital announced that after a period of intensive treatment, a 19-month-old boy residing in Trieu Binh commune (Quang Tri) who was hospitalized due to drowning has been discharged.

Previously, on November 4, the child unfortunately fell into a canal near his house. At that time, nurse Le Thi Ha (Pediatrics Department, Quang Tri General Hospital), who lives nearby, immediately arrived at the scene.

"When I received the news, the baby was picked up by relatives in a state of no pulse, with pale lips. I immediately performed CPR according to the correct procedure. About 10 minutes later, the baby's lips turned pink again, but there was still no pulse," Ms. Ha recounted.

The child was then taken to Trieu Hai General Hospital for emergency treatment, before being transferred to Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital. On the way to Trieu Hai General Hospital, the medical team continued to resuscitate, monitor for hypothermia and provide respiratory support.

The baby recovered and was discharged from hospital after a period of treatment.

Upon admission, the medical team at Quang Tri General Hospital promptly provided emergency care, stabilized the patient's condition, and continued intensive treatment. After 10 days, the patient recovered steadily, was discharged from the hospital, and had no sequelae.

The hospital said the successful first aid operation demonstrated the importance of timely first aid in the community, the proficiency, calmness and quick response of medical staff, as well as the importance of people being trained and supported by medical staff near the area.

The unit recommends that parents do not leave children alone near ponds, lakes, water basins, fish tanks or swimming pools, and equip children with water safety skills as soon as possible. When detecting a child drowning, it is necessary to take the child out of the water, check breathing and circulation, perform CPR if the child's heart or breathing stops, and call an ambulance and transfer to the hospital as soon as possible...
