Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee received a report from the Department of Food Safety on November 11 on the results of the investigation and verification of the suspected food poisoning case that occurred in Hanh Thong Ward (Ho Chi Minh City), and an official dispatch from the Ministry of Health on strengthening food safety assurance in schools and collective kitchens on November 3.
Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy directed agencies and localities to strictly implement documents of the Government and the Ministry of Health on ensuring food safety in schools, collective kitchens, food service establishments, and street food; strengthen state management responsibility for food safety in the new situation; and strengthen food poisoning prevention.
At the same time, departments, branches, People's Committees of wards, communes, and special zones support and coordinate with the Department of Food Safety in investigating and handling food poisoning. The Department of Health is responsible for providing information on treatment facilities and a list of cases to the Department of Food Safety for epidemiological investigation.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of the ward, commune, and special zone shall preside over and coordinate with the Department of Food Safety, the Department of Health, and other units to focus on directing and be responsible before the City Party Committee and the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City if food poisoning occurs, causing damage and endangering the lives of people in the management area.
Previously, from November 5, hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City received more than 300 cases of food poisoning after eating "Banh mi toa co Bich". Test results of some samples recorded the presence of salmonella bacteria, which was identified as the cause of the poisoning.
