On November 13, Gia Dinh People's Hospital announced that it had received a total of 52 cases of food poisoning in the "Miss Bich's Toad Bread" incident. The most serious case was patient THD., who suffered respiratory failure and had to be intubated.
Medical history shows that on the morning of November 7, Ms. D. developed a fever and had diarrhea after eating bread from the store “Miss Bich’s Toad Bread”. The diarrhea gradually worsened, so she was hospitalized on November 8.

At that time, the patient had a high fever, was lethargic, had respiratory failure, and circulatory failure, and had to be transferred to the Intensive Care and Poison Control Department. The treatment team performed endotracheal intubation, invasive mechanical ventilation, fluid replacement, vasopressor infusion, specific antibiotics, and strict blood sugar control.
According to the doctor, because of many underlying diseases such as pneumonia, high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, and type 2 diabetes, the patient's condition worsened very quickly after being poisoned.
After 5 days of intensive treatment, the patient is now stable, alert, and being monitored at the Gastroenterology Department. If progress is favorable, Ms. D. can be discharged in the next few days.
To prevent food poisoning, Dr. Vo Hong Minh Cong, Deputy Director of Gia Dinh People's Hospital, recommends that people should follow safety principles such as:
Eat cooked food and drink boiled water; do not use raw, spoiled or expired food; refrigerate food below 5°C, reheat leftover food above 70°C before use.
Wash your hands with soap before preparing food, before eating, and after using the toilet; keep the kitchen and cooking utensils clean; buy food of clear origin and properly preserved.
Go to a medical facility immediately if you have unusual symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain, instead of treating yourself at home.
Processed food businesses must strictly comply with food safety regulations, be fully trained in food safety knowledge; disinfect hands before processing and serving, and immediately discard food with unusual odors or signs.
