Request Lazada and TikTok to remove unlicensed weight loss products

On November 13, the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) issued a document requesting two e-commerce platforms Lazada and TikTok to remove weight loss products that have not been licensed for circulation in Vietnam, to ensure consumer safety.

According to the post-inspection results of the Food Safety Department, the 15kg weight loss pill product belongs to the functional food group - being advertised and sold on Lazada but has not been granted a certificate of product declaration registration according to regulations.

Similarly, on TikTok platforms, the department also discovered many other products such as DIET MINAMI pills, Hitana Minami 12kg weight loss support tea and 15kg weight loss tea being advertised and brought to the market.

The above product is also being advertised and sold on the e-commerce platform (Shopee) with information about the product declaration registration receipt number 5438/2024/DKSP dated July 12, 2024. However, through data lookup, the Food Safety Department confirmed that it has never issued this license for any of the above products.

According to regulations, functional foods are divided into four groups: dietary supplements, health protection foods, medical nutritional foods and foods for special diets.

The first three groups are required to be granted a certificate of product declaration registration before being circulated on the market; while food supplements must self-declare on the food safety management data system of the competent state agency.

The Food Safety Department requested Lazada Vietnam E-commerce Company Limited to urgently review all functional food products it is trading, only allowing the circulation of products that have been licensed by state management agencies or have valid self-declarations according to regulations.

Immediately stop selling and remove all advertising information related to the product "15kg weight loss pills" and similar violating products.

Regarding the TikTok platform, the department discovered specific links promoting similar unlicensed products under the names of DIET MINAM pills; Hitana Minami 12kg weight loss support tea: 15kg weight loss product...

The Food Safety Department requested TikTok and Lazada to promptly remove all illegal advertising content and handle related business accounts according to the law.

At the same time, strengthen censorship and management of functional food advertising on the platform.

The Department also sent a document requesting the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to remove information on the above products and handle them according to the provisions of law.

The Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy - Ministry of Industry and Trade continues to notify e-commerce platforms and business booths on e-commerce trading platforms to stop trading the above products, remove information on violating products, and handle them according to the provisions of law.

Previously, on November 12, the Food Safety Department also requested Shopee to remove the MINAMI 12kg Weight Loss product from the e-commerce platform.
