Effectively developing Vietnam - Italy relations

The 9th ASEAN-Italy High-Level Dialogue on Economic Relations concluded with many successes in connecting the regional economy with Italy.

On the afternoon of November 13, the 9th ASEAN - Italy High-Level Dialogue Forum on Economic Relations closed at the Binh Duong Convention and Exhibition Center (Binh Duong Ward, Ho Chi Minh City).

Through 5 discussion sessions, delegates including officials, businesses, scholars... listened to and discussed many key issues in ASEAN - Italy economic relations such as green transformation, smart manufacturing, new generation infrastructure, innovation and digital transformation...

Ho Chi Minh City promotes its role in the region.

In his closing speech at the forum, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Loc Ha assessed that in just one day, the discussion contents demonstrated the depth and common will of countries, organizations and businesses in building a stable, green and smart global economy.

The Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee affirmed that the city is proud to host this high-level forum for the first time, considering this an important opportunity for the city to continue promoting foreign affairs and international integration.

"Through the forum, Ho Chi Minh City hopes to promote its proactive and active role in regional and international cooperation initiatives, contributing to the common development of the ASEAN community," he emphasized.

According to Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha, Italy is a country with a strong culture, science and technology development in Europe, and is increasingly affirming its position as a strategic partner of ASEAN in general and Vietnam in particular.

The cooperation between businesses of both sides in the fields of renewable energy, education, science and technology, etc. is a testament to the substantive and effective development relationship between Vietnam and Italy.

Towards the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City is ready to contribute its capacity, experience and initiatives to join ASEAN in building a community that is "more united, more resilient, more proactive, more inclusive and more sustainable".

Vietnam is the "champion" in attracting investment.

Sharing with Tuoi Tre , Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Marco Della Seta said that the Italian diplomatic representative agency always supports and assists Italian businesses to invest in the digital economy in Vietnam.

According to Mr. Seta, Vietnam's strengths are demonstrated through its political vision as well as regulations and policies in the field of digital economy. The Italian Ambassador expressed his belief that this contributes to ensuring Vietnam's success in building a good environment for high-tech development.

“A few months ago, we held a conference at the National Innovation Center in Hanoi, bringing together many Italian high-tech centers and Vietnamese enterprises. There have been some companies like Leonardo, a state-owned company operating in the computer and high-tech sector, opening offices in Vietnam. I believe there will be more investment opportunities in the future,” he said.

The Italian Ambassador also said that Rome considers ASEAN a very important partner, with an increasingly important role, in which Vietnam is one of the "champions" in terms of growth and investment attraction.

"This is certainly the best reason for a country like Italy to increase its interest, activities and attention to ASEAN, especially Vietnam. Most of the areas that Vietnam and ASEAN want to develop such as transportation, energy, green economy are areas in which Italy has experience, knowledge and is willing to share," Mr. Seta affirmed.

Mr. Dang Tan Duc, Director of Becamex Group Research and Development Institute, commented that ASEAN is at the center of global economic transformation and supply chain restructuring.

He said ASEAN is ready to become a leading investment destination, in which Vietnam - located in the center of the region - has a special strategic position.

"Cooperation between Vietnam, ASEAN and Italy is not only a choice, but also a necessity," he said.

According to Mr. Duc, Italy is one of the prominent economies in Europe, with strengths in precision engineering, digital transformation and sustainable development; while Italian enterprises possess advanced design capabilities and manufacturing technology.

He also emphasized that Vietnam is entering a "golden time" with a population of 100 million people, 70% of whom are under 40 years old, and adding about 100,000 new engineers each year.

"Vietnam has transformed strongly, from producing traditional goods to exporting technology products, becoming one of the top 2 largest electronics exporting countries in Southeast Asia," he said.
