Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong affirmed: Tuong and folk opera are traditional art forms with unique values of Vietnamese culture. However, in the face of rapid changes in social life, traditional arts are facing many difficulties: the performance market is shrinking, audiences are scattered, young human resources are lacking, while the team of veteran artists is getting smaller; the work of passing on the profession is still limited, attracting young audiences faces many challenges. These are issues that require more synchronous participation of management agencies, art units and the team of artists themselves.
According to the Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism , this year's National Tuong and Folk Drama Festival is an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the current state of creation, staging and performance; to evaluate the capacity of the artist team, their ability to approach contemporary life as well as to identify innovative efforts in composition. These results are an important basis for formulating policies to support traditional theatrical forms.

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong said that preserving traditional art does not mean keeping it as it is, but needs to be placed in the process of adapting, developing and spreading values. The strategy for developing Vietnamese culture to 2030 also clearly identifies priority tasks: Preserving traditional art, developing human resources and innovating financial mechanisms, especially in ordering and supporting works of art.
“The Ministry continues to consider opera and folk opera as key areas that need priority. In the coming time, the Ministry will perfect the financial mechanism; innovate the method of ordering works; increase investment in training young artists; and support vocational training in a more in-depth and systematic way,” Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong emphasized.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requested departments to direct art units to proactively innovate production organization; boldly create creativity in staging; maintain artistic identity; expand performance spaces; strengthen connections with schools and the community; and pay special attention to training of successor forces.

The Deputy Minister also requested the Department of Performing Arts to continue researching and advising on perfecting mechanisms and policies for traditional arts so that each artist, even in difficult conditions, can maintain their passion and sense of responsibility for their profession. The artists' persistent contributions are the most important foundation for preserving and promoting the value of national art.
The 2025 National Tuong and Folk Opera Festival attracted the participation of nearly 1,000 artists and actors from 10 art units across the country, bringing 14 unique plays that were elaborately staged, deeply reflecting social life, praising the traditional history, homeland, country, and people of Vietnam, honoring ethical and humanistic values and aspirations to rise up.
Playing the role of "holding the scales of justice" in the festival is the Art Council consisting of prestigious and experienced artists, including: People's Artist Le Tien Tho; People's Artist Pham Thi Kim Oanh (Kieu Oanh); People's Artist Trinh Thi Hong Luu; People's Artist Nguyen Dat Tang; People's Artist Nguyen Ngoc Khanh.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the play "Fire in Phien Nung" was performed by artists from the Vietnam National Traditional Theater to open the festival.
Theater lovers can watch the remaining plays from now until November 24 at Dai Nam Theater, Hanoi . The closing ceremony and award ceremony of the festival will take place on the evening of November 26.
